Default GOTTI™'s SAGA | Do you have bearing failure? Tapping? Read!

Aight.. I got a damn rattle under my hood. I'm almost at 55,000 miles on my tC, and I hear a rattle coming from my engine bay. I also have the Megan Racing Head, I'm trying and hoping that its nothing serious. When I accelerate its this constant and consistant rattle, and it stops when I let off the petal.

What do some of you mechanics out there think it could be?

Preciate it! ;)

I dont know if its something internal, my pre-cat blown, or what? Screw loose. I thought it was my CF engine cover, but... that isn't it. Help me yall!

You said that you thought it was your engine cover. Does it sound like its coming from higher up in the engine bay area?

Try adjusting the little rubber stoppers that your hood rests on. You turn them to make them raise or lower to keep the hood from making noise.

do u have a strut bar? and if so, do you have a stock air box? the stock intake could be hitting the bar

My guess is the rubber stops, also. Happened on a customer's xB - raised them up - presto - no more rattle.

I have a Hotchkis strut bar, no air box, I have the WR intake, and I've not yet looked at the rubber stops for the hood. I'll check that out. The sound is coming from up high, but i've not yet been able to get out and listen to it myself. I've had others listen. I'll get my gf to hit the gas while I listen at lunch. I'll also check the rubber stops. I am worried that its something internal, like pistons or something. I'll update you all after lunch. Thanks everyone!

BTW, I had the hood raised when I listened for that sound, and it still made it.. does that mean that the rubber stops could not be the issue?

Stu, it's just like you to come in here and use us like a used... nevermind.

I don't think it would be your pre-cat if it sounds like it's coming from higher up. When I had my Eclipse a bunch of people had their timing belts start to wear out around 60K. I dunno... I'm paranoid about my cars.

Hahaha.. so it seems ;) I wouldn't do that to you man.. ;) Haha... I am guessing that its my timing belt then. I will take it by Scion of Waldorf and have them check it out for me this weekend, or Annapolis either one.

I'm not sure about the tC's, but the xB has a timing chain, so I have no worries

When you get into Waldorf touch base with Tavis E. and tell him Chewy said Hey.

I think you are correct. I thought the tc had a chain instead of a belt.

Hell if I know. This guy that changed my oil last night said that he couldn't pin point the noise, but he said it could be because my engine moves back when I rev and puts pressure on springs, that a nut could be loose.

IMO, its coming from the immediate left side of the engine, passengers side, near the belts... or even internal

I tink I might have figured it out. When I put my header on, my buddy and I couldn't get to the bottom left bolt, so we were going to attempt to take off the alternator, well.. we started, but I eventually got the bolt off. I think my boy forgot to retighten that bolt firmly, and now its either rattling, or coming loose. I will take it somewhere and see if they can tighten it back up.

Well.. the whip is in the shop. I should be hearing something soon on what was wrong. I am pretty sure that its something that my buddy and I did installing my head. The damn diagnostic was $80 alone... thats hoping that its nothing more than what I think it is.
