GOTTI™'s SAGA | Do you have bearing failure? Tapping? Read!
Just because you've authorized repair, it doesn't mean they've started yet. It's more likely that they'll start on Monday. Try calling them to see if they've started. I would pay them for the tear down & have your car moved somewhere else- to MSP if possible. I would definitely find out if they can at least diagnose your motor damage.
Another thought... what about turning it in on insurance? When I blew the motor in my Si, I turned it in & they paid for a motor swap with little effect to my premium. I had different circumstances, but you could always call your insurance company & do a "what if" hypothetical situation without identifying yourself. It never hurts to ask.
Also, if there is a lien on the car & you find out the aftermarket parts were not the cause you can get them involved to fight for you because they have an interest in your car.

Wow.. I dont know if he wants to talk about it or not.. so i'll keep names out. Someone I just spoke with is having the same issues as my car, and they have almost exact damage. The same wordage and verbage was used in both of our conversations with Toyota and Scion. This person has some other higher ups involved and hopefully since this is not an isolated incident now.. maybe some light can be shed on the factory. I'll keep everyone posted on whats going on.. He has some highly certified techs and someone who knows how to "dawg" a tC..
Tommorow I am going back to Toyota and having them stop repair.. I will wait until I now speak with some other folks. I got a gooooood feeling this is going to result in something being done for these tC's.. I smell a recall.

Hmmm... keep us updated.
Just a side note, my boyfriend was driving my car the other day & thought he heard my motor knocking. I haven't done any power mods yet & just tipped over 8000 miles, so it shouldn't be. We're going to investigate it further when we have some time.

Def.. after talking with him.. trust me.. this isn't just an isolated incident.. I am fully confident that Scion and Toyota have an issue on their hands. I am willing to bet.. mark my words.. this is going to result in some sort of recall or problem from the factory. I am finding it more and more easier to believe that the factory may have had their tourque specs off when they tightened the rods to the crank. This is just tooo odd that there is someone else experiencing the same thing... I'll keep you all posted.. and I'm sure the other person that i'm speaking of will chime in soon too.
I doubt there will be a recall. Every car is a little different. I don't have a tC, but isn't it the same engine as a four cylinder Toyota Camry? It seems that out of the thousands of tCs and Camrys sold, they would have noticed an issue by now. On the other hand, you might want to check out the VIN numbers and see if they were built around the same time or came from the same factory, etc. If there was more than one incident, then at least Toyota would be more likely to fix it...
I agree with x_rayted711. A proper way to recall is by filing with NHTSA. Depending on how many people file, an investigation is initiated. Creating false claims though is a crime and IPs are checked. Just file a compliant using the link.

It would have been easier from the getgo to reinstall your stock intake and have the Toyota Techs inspect the car as "stock."

X rayted.. I understand what you speak.. but.. I do believe I have to right to talk about my situation any way I choose. I am not saying there is going to be a recall.. but I do think that the factory has screwed up something internally with a couple if not all the cars from where our vehicles have came from. As for followers.. I will be the first to admit.. I dont know a **** load about engines... but that doesn't mean that someone who can gather information from others who are highly certified and knowledgable of the situation cannot draw or form his own conclusion or opinions. I use a crap-load of common sense when it comes to things.. and I'm not bashing you or anything.. but I do believe I know what I am dealing with here. This thread is to inform people "word-for-word" what I am being told and what my actions are. Why dont you stop for a minute and think to yourself... what if? What if my car actually was the one that found this issue? What if this other guy has the same issue and I just wanted to make sure that everyone had the info and the knowledge they needed to do thier own conclusion before hand... isn't this what this whole thread is about? I would gather to say YES! Especially since I wrote these last couple pages.
Here is my new and improvised opinion.
Based on all the information gathered, I believe that the reasoning given to myself and this other person who is having these issues are inaccurate and are an attempt by Toyota to sweep it under the rug.. if you will. We both were told we either had forced induction, N2O or it was serverly over-revved. Knowing that both of us had not done either of the first two reasons.. over revving is not possible unless downshifting is done to its extreme. If that is the case, the valves would show some sign of that.. which both of ours do not. After several opinions from both mechanics I work with, and his NASCAR Certified Techs and a tC Drag Racer that we all know.. the only logical possibility is that the tourque specs on the crank and the rods and bearings were incorrect. I was told that the bearings were egg-shaped which could come from over tourquing the bearings down so that they become mis-shaped causing inadequate oil flow to certain parts, and creating a shape not meant to be placed around the circular crank.. thus causing the scoring that we both are experiencing. I found flakes in the oil pan which is more obviously from the crank vs the intake. Both of our vehicles have the WR Intake on them, but for the flakes to get from the cylinders to the pan or the crank is almost impossible. I should be getting a call from the other guy that is having these issues, he's been in contact with some higher ups with Scion and Toyota.
Now to me.. call it what you want.. but I believe Toyota is at fault here.. not myself or this other cat.
Sorry if I was sounding like a jacka$$.. I just haven't slept good, and I still dont have my car..
Gotti has spoken!

Agree'd.. sorry.. I didn't mean to be a dizok..
I just am getting ticked off with all this.. I feel like a damn woman on her..
I am sure this is all going to work out fine.. the other guy that has the same issues as I.. everyone knows him.. James from Creative Compacts has the same scoring that I was talking about.. him and I talked and we both believe that this is something the factory did. We both conclude that it has to be the tourque specs that are off..
I know the dealership said that my bearings were "egg-shaped".. I think if they were over tourqued.. they would cause that.. and then begin to scratch and score. Should be getting interesting here really soon.. I'm glad James brought this to my attention.. he and I are both working on figuring out what they are going to do..
Keep your fingers crossed for us both.
