having a tough time deciding
the tires on the tC can be a little better in the weather, but, that is easily fixed with replacement.
i drove a prius 105 mph... it rode great. i loved every minute i drove in that prius. I plan on renting one again.
if you are trying to save money over all, look at it this way.
if you keep your car for 120000 miles and gas prices stay where they are.
the tC average mpg is around 24 or so OR 5000 gallons of gas @ 2.36 per gallon (right now) you will spend around $11,800
the prius average mpg is around 55 or so 2182 gallons of gas @ 2.36 per gallon (right now) you will spend around $5,149
MSRP
Prius starts out around $24,000
tC starts out around $16,700
Total operating cost (not including repairs)
tC $28,500
prius $29,149
Conclusion:
Based on initial cost and gas costs over time the prius would cost you $649 more to own and drive.
If you are trying to be more envrionmentally concious the prius is the way to do that.

prius = cool hyrid great gas mileage, but expensive upfront and you'll have to replace the batteries in several years...more money... not enough power to keep most people happy. conclusion - great if you drive alot...but don't want peformance.
tC - awesome styling. cheap as hell. great performance. but, cheap paint, some problems (sunroof explosion). decent gas mileage, but about half of what prius offers
conclusion - great for if you want to have fun, not terribley great compared to prius when it comes to gas milage and total cost

I like the Prius for its spacious interior, push start button, keyless entry, and it's high tech factor. But since I will be the only one in the car most of the time, the tC does the job at a lower cost. The tC will be discontinued in 3 model years whereas the Prius will be around for quite for time. I decided to go for the Release Series 1.0 since I can always get a Prius a few years down the road.
I asked around yesterday before I ordered my tC Release Series 1.0, dealers told me upfront that the cost to get a Prius would be $1000 to $4000 above sticker price. I said to hell with that and went back to Scion for its pure pricing. I could've gotten a tC RS1.0 today, but for $500 more than sticker (not through a Toyota dealership). But the place I went to didn't sound like they know about the car at all.
I'm happy with my decision. Now the waiting game begins.
Mainrodax, it's an '05. I don't think the Release Series 1.0 is an 06.
I'll post some pics when it comes in (approx. 3 weeks).
