Hey New Member Here..Looking For Help On Key Cutting
Hey everyone. What a great site. Truly full of info. So I asked the dealership how much it would be to get a new remote key the one u click to open the doors with. They said the key costs $150. They said programming is $75. I can't afford this. I spotted some keys for $75 on ebay.
My question, its a key with the chip/brain inside of it. Can I take it to home depot to cut it? I have found the programming directions.
Then if they cut it right all I have to do is go into add key mode?
Thanks guys!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the key programming instructions are for the scion security system, not the ignition system. I'm pretty sure you can't program a key yourself, (that or car thief's are missing out on a gold mine).
While Home depot may be able to cut your key, it will not programmed.

You pay for security. Considering one can create a key from a distant photo of my keys left on my desk, (source: http://vision.ucsd.edu/~blaxton/sneakey.html) I for one am happy there is an extra layer of security in there.
The ignition system should definitely trump the scion security system. The RF chip in the key is tied to the car's computer. The programming fee you mentioned ties your new key to your cars computer.
