Default how dare you call my tC a girl car!

Some of my "non-scion" sales associates, were giving me a hard time, calling the tC a "girl-car". Although they were just joking, I couldn't help but think, there was atleast an ounce of truth to their ridicule. When you look at toyota's overall sales, in terms of male/female ratios, you could almost call all of our sedans [and coupes], "girl-cars".

In reality, we intend to make most of our vehicles apealing to women, because they tend to be 80% of our market. Many of our cars are even feminin in nature, from a body style stand point, and tend to be vehicles more women buy. Our corolla, echo, and matrix, are all vehicles that tend to be more apealing to women. Even the camry is, for the most part, thought of as a "family" sedan, that the wife wants, and the husband goes along with. In no way is it my intention to imply that Toyota doesn't make a diverse aray of vehicles, that can meet the needs and wants of everyone, male or female, but it's fairly evident, Toyota is a manufacturer going after the female buyer in the sedan market.

So I guess my question is...does the tC follow that trend? Do you think of the tC as a feminin car? Either way, I love my tC, with whatever label haters try to place on it. However I did want to get some feed back from scion, and specificaly, tC owners.

EDIT: Real men buy Toyota/Scion

Down here in Louisiana that's how the mustang is thought of now. What a freaking pitty man.

Well like the jetta, I don't think it was intentionally meant to appeal to girls.

Check out www.vwvortex.com There are plenty of Jetta owners (most of them) who are male.

Girls will buy cars solely on the point that they are cute which has nothing to do with it being girly or not. It's only a plus if a girl thinks your car is cute because she will want to be seen in it.

An example being my sister got a new tiburon because it's a "cute" car.

It's a guy's car. trust me. there's a reason the backseat is so accommodating.

all that toyota stuff seems true. but honda cars are also geared toward girls, especially the Civic which gears its target market towards women. maybe the only true manly cars are those corvettes, mustangs, and expensive luxury cars (stuff I don't have the money for. =P )

GUY CARS:

- Full-sized pickup truck. Won't haul kids, but will haul 4x8 sheetrock. Points lost if it's too shiny.
- Cars with twice the horsepower needed. Used to show other guys how manly you really are.
- Ford Mustang (hardtop with V8 only). See above. Also benefit of having no place for a baby seat.
- Chevy Camaro: See Ford Mustang.
- Mercedes 500 Series, BMW 7 Series: No woman would ever spend that much on a car. (She would buy an SUV and have the living room redecorated.) It must be a guy car.
- Its engine size is still given in cubic inches, especially if that number is over 400
- There was a movie or TV show built entirely around it. Examples include Burt Reynolds' Trans Am, the General ----Lee; the Knight Rider car; and the Dodge Viper. The A-Team van probably counts too.
- Any car that has been refinished with sufficient dents, missing parts, rust, bondo, and primer paint so that it can only be identified from five feet away in direct sunlight can be considered a guy's car.
- Any car with numbers or letters for a name, or tacked on the end, can become a guy car. For example, F-150 or Civic-SI.
- Any car with a large hood-to-cab-length ratio such as a Corvette or pickup.

CHICK CARS:

- Any car painted in pink, light blue, or champagne is a chick car.
- Any "sports car" that is available only with a four-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission is a chick car.
- Top 5 Chick Cars:
5. Dodge Neon - "Neons are Barbie cars: little and cute and rounded in the hips. Even in black, they are feminine and adorable, only just a bit tougher, like Tattoo Barbie."
4. VW Jetta - "Anything by Volkswagen is a chick car. VW realized this years ago and joined forces with another company to sell guy cars--they called that company Porsche."
3. Mazda Miata - "I discovered this phenomenon when I got a Miata. "Girlie car." That's all I heard."
2. VW Cabriolet - "All teen-age girls classify them as cute. 'Nuff said."
1. VW Beetle - "The VW Beetle. A chick car, definitely. And made to be so. How? I know of no other automobile with a FLOWER VASE as standard equipment."

Well there you have it.

Also I'd like to point out that the last generation of Mustangs, 80% of them were bought by women.

Read it in a magazine the other day.

The New Ford Mustang: Can the Pony Ride Again?
Forbes Magazine ^ | 10.18.04 Issue | Jerry Flint

"The Mustang is a "girl's car." Most Mustangs had six cylinders, and many buyers have been women. Why? Because it was a good-looking car for not much money, and young women had good taste and not much money. But the boys who built it wanted it hot, with bigger V-8s and more speed. They called the car the Boss, the Cobra, the Mach 1. More weight and cost chased away the customers who bought the car. "

um, the Neon was specifically designed to be a chick car... and the Miata is a male's "mid-life crisis" car

I saw one with a turbo charged Audi tt engine in it. I'd drive it. But, of course, I think they're "cute" so I probably don't count

POV of a retail manager: all money is green. women are 51% of the population and are a huge untapped market for most goods. if you have a vehicle (like the tC) which appeals across the spectrum, men and women, old and young, and you only market to men or "boys" then you severly limit your potential sales. when you market to everyone you could triple or quadruple your sales.

I love my tC, and am totally comfortable with chick being attracted to it. as a matter of fact, it gives me an "in." something in common to talk about.

This one didn't look any different which is what appealed to me. I love sleeper cars :D

It doesn't bother me that the tC is a "chick car" either, which is why I easily bring it up to pick on others. Both sexes compliment my car, and that's the only way it should be ;)

If my tC is a girl's car, how come when I start my tC, the stereo display says "THIS IS A MAN'S CAR"?

I'm sorry to say but it really is a girl car. In a few years, when they are available used, jersey girls will be the only ones driving them. So, if you want to be ahead of the curve, all you tc owners will go get fake **** and nail extentions now.
