Default How do you downshift?

No, I know how to down shift I was just curious how other people drive their 5 speeds. For instance. When you see a red light, Do you pop it into neutral and coast the rest of the way. Leave it in that gear and put it in N as your about to stop, or run through all the gears as you're slowing down. You get it.

Let Me Start:

If I'm slowing down I'll usually hold the clutch in and run through all the appropriate gears as I slow down. Rev match into a gear if I'm leaving a turn, put it into Neutral after I stop if... I'm stopping. If I'm in a fast mood I'll heal-toe all the way down through the gears.

I heel-toe down to 2nd then when I'm at about 1000-1200 rpm in 2nd I'll pop it into neutral. It's not the best thing to do gas milage-wise..but w/e.

I always rev match and heel toe while down shifting. When I get to 2nd, I put it in neutral.

Some say it wears out the clutch, but I'm boosted and have a high performance clutch anyway so, that's what it's made to do!

I put in neutral and coast - Gas and clutch wear will be much more expensive than putting new pads on - Don't get me wrong, if I need to stop faster than what I think my breaks can do I'll throw it down, but for the most part, why waste your clutch and gas?

Ill change the way I down-shift depending on the situation. If I know that Im not going to be moving again with enough momentum to keep 2nd gear, then Ill put it in neutral and brake. If traffic may move, Ill run it through the gears.

I run through the gears, except first. I will put it in first when I am at aout 7-10mph and come to a stop with the brakes.

Oh an you save gas by running through the gears. In neutral you are using fuel to keep the engine running. When letting off the gas in gear you are using the rotation of the transmission to turn the crank to keep the engine running. if you arent pressing the gas peddle, the throttle body is not opening, and you arent letting any additional air into the system, s no fuel will be added as well.
I have heard, that when in major vacume, like downshifting, the injectors arent even firing. Not sure if its true tho.

I actually tried this at work. We have a truck with actual time fuel milage. its only slightly off. Floor it and it reads 4-5 mpg. Let off and it takes about a second to update. I drove around. Driving normal and was reading around 20mpg. Floored it and it it went to around 4-7mpg. Coasted IN gear and it read aroud 130MPG. Coasted out of gear and it read around 50MPG. I did all different speeds and all. I have a video of it somewhere.

yep thats right. when slowing down, IN gear and letting the engine slow the car down there is literally no gas being used at all. when you have the car in neutral and braking, the engine is still using gas to idle.

I do whatever the situation calls for. I never coast in neutral if I have a long way to go.. you don't have much control over the car in that instance. That being said, I mainly drive in 3rd or 4th gear in heavy traffic light areas.. coasting in 3rd until I get to the light or stop sign. If I think I won't have to stop for a long period of time I downshift to second and launch from second. Highway and spirited driving there's no way I'm downshifting all the way to second.. especially when I'm cruising in 5th.. downshifting to 3rd at slow areas and throwing to neutral when I use the brakes to stop.

I can't wait to get the TWM short shifter.. GOD I LOVE DRIVING THIS CAR! 54k miles and the clutch is still strong.. shifts are just as smooth and gotta love the factory brake pads
