I heard something POP
Maybe one of you has some insight on this.
I was just coming to work in a very wet downtown Seattle.
I was in the left lane on a one way street. The light changed to green and I started going through the intersection and some idiot in a Civic in the lane next to me (immediately on my right) started turning left in front of me. He stopped and looked at me and I held up my hands like, "WHAT?!"
and then he completed his very ignorant and dangerous left turn in front of me.
Once he was cleared of me, I did what I always do when I'm agitated, I punched it. Since I was in first gear, I got a massive amount of wheelspin (and wheel hop). Well, the tach probably got up to 3000 or 4000, and I heard a loud POP just as the tires started to grab and I got moving through the intersection.
The pop sounded like it came from either the left wheelwell or the left side of the engine bay, in front of me. It was nothing like a tire pop, it was a mechanical pop like something broke, due to torque. However, the car still drives fine and I can see no evidence of anything broken on the outside of the car. This makes me suspect maybe the engine mounts?
I've heard people mention that the engine mounts are somehow related to wheel hop, so it makes me think it might have something to do with that.
Any ideas, kind folks?
THANKS!

Could just be that you caught a nice rock when your wheels spun and they rocketed it into the wheel well. I personally have noticed that the tC seems to resonate the sound of random stuff hitting inside the wheel well much better than any other car I've driven. I've thought many times that something has to be broke or that a tire has popped when all it was is a rock.
