I might trade my TC in
Man sell the tC, I'm starting to dislike my car very much. Hopefully I can sell mine too. I baby the car and it still runs into stupid problems and all the electric stuff in the car is always retarded (i.e., the radio switching stations w/o touching it) also all the sounds the car has.
If I were you, I'd go with the evo, but your call in the end.
Plus the tC sucks at gas. For a 4 cyl car, I am extremely disappointed with it.

I have never heard anything good about the reliability of Mitsubishi, theres a reason why. Back before they brought the Evo to the states they were about to pull the plug here because they couldn't afford it, the recalls they were making were getting too expensive.
Anyone ever see that article about the guy with the Evo X whose gas pedal broke off? Mitsu denied his warranty claim but the dealership fixed it for free. Good dealerships, bad company? Anyways i know i wouldn't want to trust 30k+ in a company like this...

Honestly, wait til you graduate and get a good job. Then if you decide you want to trade the tC, you won't be worrying so much about the sticker price, and you can get exactly what you want. I had a tC in college and it was a great first new car. Now, I have a solid job and enjoy driving my R to work everyday. And having a good job also means you don't have to worry about gas prices and maintenance costs that are associated with driving "higher" performance cars.
Just my .02 having recently traded in my Scion...

This article helped me decide which car suited my needs. I know you said you are looking at previous gen but the article is still a good read:
