Default I think i figured out why my shifts were so jerky

I read that the Scion TC catch point is supposed to be around 50%. Mine is around 80%. I wrote earlier that I can shift smoother by letting off the clutch completely then applying gas. I was adding gas around 50% because that is where most catch points are. Because of that my car was jerky when upshifting. I now adjusted and apply gas late, around 80% where the catch point is. It is different because I am used to adding gas a lot sooner.

Is the correct way to add gas once you hit the catch point?

I think you're over-analyzing. You need to drive according to where the clutch engagement point actually is, even if it changes. You shouldn't have to be thinking so hard.

I shift the smoothest when I don't "try to shift smoothly".

It all comes with time and practice. My father has driven manual his entire life and can even make a twin disk feel smooth.

at what rpm are you shifting at? Anything above 3000 should be easy to get smooth shifts... Also, don't rest your foot on the clutch. Foot off gas while disengaging clutch, change gear, engage clutch while getting on the gas...

The clutch engagement point is like 80%. It makes it tough because my foot is almost off the pedal when the clutch engages. Hard to add gas at that last second since if the clutch is at 50% where most are, it is easier to add gas at 50% than at the late point of engagement.

Test it. Go into a vacant parking lot, step on the clutch, put it in first..and slowly let go of the clutch until you get moving... find the engagement point. You can either adjust it (if you don't know how...go to the dealer) or deal with the play...

I think ooopsij may be confused or something, or else he's just wrong.

What we are talking about doesn't have to do with the gears, rather the clutch catch point. Wherever your catch point is, it will be the same through all your gears. At least from my understanding of it.
