I Think I Should've Gotten An Automatic...
Sorry for going offtrack, but IMO the main thing is just do what you have to do to be happy with the car. If you're not liking the 5speed, you're going to be stewing over it every time your going to the car, driving the car, thinking about the car, etc. Life's too short and the tC is too fun for that. I would shop around with a few more dealers before locking in on the trade, I dont think the IIP's are a very common color and some dealers might be more antsy to get one and give you more $'s. And make sure you drive the auto tC before you make the call, if you havent already, just to make sure you know what you're switching to as it is still a very big hit to the wallet.

I think before you go through your dealer, you should at least try to put it up on ebay, autotrader, or some other used car listing site. With people not wanting to wait for their car, you might even make a profit on the one you have now. I'm sure there are people who are willing to spend $40 on a Southwest flight to come pick up your car. Do it now. If or when the lots start filling up with tCs, you'll lose that chance.

hey and on the bus you meet the most interesting people!!
too bad they all don't look like Sandra Bullock.. okay bus.. bomb.. speed 1.. okay i'm dreaming now..
if the guy wants to buy an automatic.. what's wrong with that? he's the one who has to live with it.. to each their own.. if he wants an auto.. let the guy be happy instead of tearing his decision down, just because you don't like it.. how would you like it people did that to you? sheesh.. it's just a transmission.. not the meaning of life.. hahaha..
i say help the guy sell his car and get what makes him happy..

And driving in US is kinda like walking. People got lazy, people don't care - so if you are getting a car to get you from point A to point B - get an auto. If you like driving - get a manual. Remember - you steer an auto and you drive a 5-speed
Aside from that, we did vear way off topic... even though Im a manual/standard enthusiast... I think if it makes him happy to get an auto, then he should do it... just weigh out the marginal cost and marginal benefit of the situation (keeping the car and being unhappy with it, or selling it for a car he'd be happy with, at a monetary loss)

I live in DC, I am in ____ty traffic all the time and there is no way in hell I would buy an auto
The times you open it up make all the crappy stuff worthwhile.john
____, now that I think about it, I'm starting to regret it too. I think I would've rather bought an automatic than a manual. It was fun for the first couple of days but after that, it's just a pain for me. That's just me.
bounce people who can't drive... manual
A person who truley knows how to drive a manual, knows it is not a hassle, and actually less of a pain to deal with in traffic. Take it from the pro's. Not from the rest

I was almost regretting getting a 5-speed up till the end of week 2. I guess that's what happens when you learn - it's painful, tough, but extremely rewarding. Now I'm in week 5 and very happy that I took the risk and bought a 5-speed not knowing how to drive it. Especially after I got to drive an auto tC ;)
Haha, yeah. Zoltiz drove my auto, then got back in his 5spd and was happy with his choice. Then we went for a ride in his 5sp, I got back in my auto and was also very happy with my choice. I dont think I'd recommend jumping into a 5spd if you didn't know what you were getting into, but it worked for zoltiz and he's obviously very happy. Just do what you need to do to love this car.

Oh please! I drove an M/T for 12 years and it was fun until I got on the giant parking lot we call the freeway. A couple of miles is fine, but 15-20 miles per day of stop and go traffic was enough to change my mind. ....Take it from this pro!

That's right, there's little room in this modern world for stick-shift automobiles. In reality they are not more efficient, they don't get better gas mileage, they don't give you more control on ice and snow and (here it comes, folks!) they are not faster! Believe it or not, they are not as reliable as automatics.

Any debate? Basically every advantage of getting a manual is thrown out here. If that's the case, we should all get automatics.

Anyways, If you drive in SoCal and have to traverse the 405, 101, and the 91 daily during rush hour, an auto transmission is not a bad thing.
