Interesting info regarding TC tsb's
Guess what...if I spent 17 thousand dollars of MY hard earned money on a car (NOT A FORD/GM/CHEVY)...I can whine/complain/b$tch as much as I want. If i wanted a car that rattled, squeaked, and made an intake whistle noise that sounds like a turbo spooling up and then a BOV...i would have SAVED some $$ and bought a GM/FORD/CHEVY...or even used HONDA!
IMO, they sell you on the tc by SAYING 'its just like a toyota' when in actuality, it has almost nothing to do with other toyota cars, except the 2AZ.
I was driving an 05 Camry 4cyl (2AZ) as a rental when my Tc was in the shop, and I can assure you..the difference in quality is not comparable.
It kills me when i see 6-10 other tc's in for service when i go in to the dealer, and when i see used tc's already popping up in the classifieds for 15 G's. OBVIOUSLY, other people aren't totally satisfied either. Overall, I like the car (mostly for its look & features) which is also why it kills me that i'm on the verge of getting rid of it because of all the things i don't like/can't stand about it.
But one thing I ABSOLUTELY cannot stand is when other owners tell ME the car is GREAT and I'm making something out of nothing. We're all in the SAME boat here...we paid a lot of money for a car that we're not quite satisfied with and now we're desperately trying to convince (y)ourselves and others that the car is great..validating our decision to spend 17K on an unproven new production model.
I really belive in most cases, the people who LOVE the car and think it is PERFECT are actually move in love with the idea of driving a scion tc, or the IMAGE of themselves driving it. Kind of like, "LOOK at ME..I DRIVE That Cool LOOKING NEW CAR that has a funky name and 17" wheels and a sunroof...I just look so cool driving this thing don't I?"
I mean, don't get me wrong, i love the look of the car, but i think theres A LOT of "those" people out there, which makes it harder for those with quality control issues to get them addressed.

not trying to nit-pick
but the tCs you see in the classifieds, you know for sure are being sold becuz the owner was unsatisfied??
the other tCs in for service, you know for sure are having rattle issues??
i have 8 tCs in service today, none for rattles---j/w
sorry you feel you wasted your money though

Um... I'm paying for my car just as much as you are paying for yours. It's most certainly my money that's going into it.
I was sold on the tC b/c it's a fun car, for a great value (read: a lot for the price) that's safe and reliable and won't cost me $$$$ in gas every day. Not b/c it's a Toyota.
Note: Camry is NOT a tC. They share a drivetrain, yes. But in the line of the Toyota family the Camry is ABOVE the tC. Scion is on the bottom. Toyota in the middle. Lexus at the top. Quality should follow that pattern, as well as price.
How do you know what those other tCs are in for? Maybe it's scheduled maintenace. Maybe it's to have a new accessory installed. Maybe they needed new tires. Maybe it's for an oil change. Maybe it's to have the brakes changed. Maybe it's b/c somethings wrong. HOW WOULD YOU KNOW?
Have you also seen the other used tCs popping up for $18k, $19k, $20k+? Ya... this car holds it's value pretty damn well. I have an 05 with nearly 18k on it and KBB.com still tells me it's worth about $17k. That's what I paid for it. Not bad if you ask me.
It's not that you're making something out of nothing. It's not "nothing" ... but you're trying to make it sound like the car is just one big piece of ____ and we should all get our money back because god forbid there are a few things that need to be adjusted or fixed if you have an issue with it...
I'm sorry you've had problems with yours. I'm sorry other people have too... but I can't help that. And unfortunately for you and the others, I have not experienced the same problems. Same with many others out there. That's not our fault. It's not your fault. It's just how it is. And I'm not trying to "desperately trying to convince (y)ourselves and others that the car is great" ... because I know MINE is great. If you're isn't so great... that sucks. I can't help you there.
What I can do is suggest that you stop complaining about it and keep trying to do something about it. OK, you've been to the dealer to complain. KEEP going to the dealer. If something is still rattling and they don't find anything, take one of them for a ride and show them. And if they still don't find anything take it to another dealer. Do the same with them. If they don't find anything... call Scion directly. Explain it to them and see what they can do.
If you've exhausted ALL of your possibilities... and I mean ALL of them, and still feel like the car sucks... then get a different car and STFU.
Well, i don't know what STFU means, cuz i'm not a computer nerd...but I DO know that the camry and tc share the same POWERTRAIN (ie. engine)..not DRIVETRAIN! ROFL..you obviously don't know too much about cars, and therefore i don't really value your opinion. Thanks for the input though. Maybe i just got unlucky and got a lemon tc; or maybe i just have higher standards than others when it comes to spending thousands of dollars; or maybe i just don't settle and "deal with it" when i don't feel satisfied like the majority of other couch potato yuppies in the world.
Either way, i'm entitled to MY opinion on MY car (if your car has been in the shop as many as mine, you'd feel the same way) and i'm afforded the rite to post my experience on SL to see if anyone else has had a similarly disappointed experience.
If You haven't...then go fly a kite. Don't waste YOUR time reading my posts, and waste MY time trying to "convince" me that i should be satisfied. You like your tc...good for you. I'm not totally satisfied..and I'll post about it as much as i want. Thanks!

Yes... b/c I said drive and not power I'm a total car n00b!
OMGZ0RZ!!!11!

I don't think you are getting the point though. No one is telling you to just "deal with it." Or even that you should accept what you have. At all. But the point is that complaining all the time that there are so many problems accomplishes nothing to address or fix those problems you might have.
I'm not trying to convince you to be satisfied with what you have. What I'm trying to convince you of is that you need to do something about it other than make posts that we've read over and over and over and over again on these forums.
I'm done here... I've said my words... even if one of them wasn't "powertrain." My bad. I'll go die now.

Actually they share a modified version of the drivetrain.. since you know SO much about cars sciontist.. or whatever your name is. I have seen a number of your other posts including this one.. so please dont stat touting your car knowledge and bashing others on here.. I guess you are right.. ALL of us with 30 - 40k on ours with ZERO complaints or issues should just get rid of them because of some that do have issues.. that is absurd.. you obviously know even less about the manufacturing process than you do about tsbs
You can have a production run go bad (especially on the scale we are talking) and have issues in batches of cars. Do you understand Six Sigma?? And the tiny percentage of vehicles or any product that meets the perfect spec it lays out?? Doesnt sound like it. The more cars you produce, the more that possibly have issues, period.. again, go look at every other car on the market, inlcuding BMW (which consistantly has a much higher "percieved" quality than actual quality due to branding and the feel that since it is more expensive.. it is better), mercedes, porche, etc and see that it can happen to them all. No one EVER said you dont have issues.. but you spend so much time ranting and b!tching to see that. But that also doesnt mean that all of them have those issues... and as mentioned.. did you run crying and ask all those tC owners you see in the dealership why they are there??? could it be MAINTENANCE SERVICE? Or some that are in to install options before sale (yes, many of the options are installed at the dealer, not at port). Mine has been in plenty of times.. free oil changes, stuff that was broken when the tech installed options, etc.. not quite for issues with the car now huh? You have issues with yours, and I am sorry.. so do what an intelligent person would do and try to get them resolved.. all you are doing is coming on here crying about the car and getting nothing done.. and I am sure if you act that childish at the dealer they are really going to put you as a high priority.

It wouldnt be the worst I have been called
Seriously though.. I hope I dont come off like I think I am the car know it all.. I know about the design aspects of products from my engineering experience, and know what I know about cars from working on all my own, doing work for my dad at his shop growing up, helping him build some, and probably most importantly, from his teaching and making me fix, repair, tear down and rebuild others and my own my whole life (16 or 17 years of it anyway.. yeah, I'm gettin old! ) .. The best way to learn is to do it yourself and listen to those with years of experience.
And sorry to go on arguing with this guy.. but he comes on griping, bashing others and trying to make others sound dumb.. which irritates me :D

hmmm..well, this is where i work (part time) www.fuzionauto.com (site hasn't been updated recently, but u get the point) so while i don't claim to know EVERYTHING about cars, i know enough to be employed at one of the top autoperformance shops in the tristate (PA, DE, NJ) area.. NOOb, i think not. We'll be installing the turbonetics kit in a tc (not mine) in a few weeks..so i'll be sure to keep you posted and fill you in with all my "newbie" knowledge!
If you don't want to read my (truthful) posts about the tc.........then DON'T!!! NO one forces you to click the thread link when u see that i've got the last post or reply to what i've written.. Again, i think it comes down to your all trying to convince me, and in a sense, yourselves that the car is worth the 17 thousand you paid for it.
yeah.. i'm bottle fed cause I mention dad... grow up son. I mention him occassionally because I sometimes bring up examples that have come through his shop... I dont own a shop, although I spent a good amount of time under a hood I chose to go another route for my career and keep cars as a hobby. The other reason I mention it is because he is a well respected and knowledgeable mechanic.. so I am proud to say I learned from him and the people around him. Rather than take offense to your comment it makes me laugh. Such a child!
I could care less who you work for.. I have laughed at plenty of peoples "knowledge" that work for huge shops.. that means zero to me. Wow, you work for a shop... that doesnt mean you know s#!t. Who knows what you even do there? And the thing is.. no matter what you know or "think" you know, you still post like someone who has never seen a car before.
Yeah, this will get locked.. and if I helped get another one of these crybaby.. panicky new car owner posts locked.. so be it

Haven't you logical and ratioanl people figured it out? He's having problems with his car, which obviously means that all tCs are piles of crap. Those of us with no issues must be delusional to think our cars are great.
To the original whiner(s): you broke Rule #1... you bought a launch year vehicle. Problems are to be expected. No car ever has a completely problem-free model year, and no launch vehicle is ever perfect. The bottom line is, if the biggest complaints you can generate are along the lines of "my car rattles," then you apparently like to yell to hear the sound of your own voice. Had a tie-rod snap off lately, or maybe a nice engine fire? No? well, I'm glad to hear that, but those rattles must be killing you.
