To whom it concerns: If you're a perfectionist like me, do not attempt to refinish wheels. It will drive you mad. I spent a total of 9 hours on lip #3 today and it's still not done.

 

^Do I spot a bend on the lip? Wheel on the right, top of pic. I'm not a perfectionist but really particular about things. I probably would take forever to get the wheels refinished myself.

 

I think that's just the light. None have bends, but they do have a couple spots of curb rash. That's probably what's causing it to not shine and look bent there.

 

Today I cleaned the outside of the barrels and the faces. I finished priming the faces as well so the base coat will go on tomorrow. I can't wait until they're back together.

Lol the day isn't over yet. I still have to hit the lips with rubbing compound before I put the bolts in. I'll have a pic or two up by this evening.

Blah didn't feel like putting the bolts in by the time I got home. But here's a pic anyway. The wall is casting a little bit of green on them but they're a dark silver. There's a gunmetal base coat under.

Barrel/face/lips. So you can essentially purchase larger lips to obtain a lower offset?

To be honest, they're not to my satisfaction. Since the previous owner sprayed them with actual automotive base/clear, I had to use a steel brush to get the paint/primer off. The aluminum being a soft metal had absorbed some of the paint so I had to grind it down to fresh metal, resulting in deep marks that I spent hours trying to get out. I made some progress but I can see they're going to have to be taken down to 60 or 80 grit which I just don't have time to do. I'll probably end up letting a professional do it if I even keep them that long.

Thanks man! The DDC lips are cool, but finding them wider is nearly impossible. I've only seen one set of Equips with DDC lips greater than 2".

You can change any of the 3 pieces to modify width or offset. But with wheels that have been discontinued for so long, finding model specific parts is hard to do. Luckily the lips and barrels are interchangeable between some of the wheels. I wish someone had some VS-XX lips I could try.

 

i hear ya on the lips being hard to find.

Jasper if you increase the length of the barrel you raise the offset, if you increase the length of the lip you lower the offset.
