Default Just had a scary experience... You may want to read this...

So I was going home after eating lunch with my boss. I am at the light waiting for the light to turn green so I cam make a left turn onto the freeway. There are two turning lanes and I am in the outter one. I am kind of at a slight upward incline, but not much.

So the light turns green I gradually accelerate and I get halfway through the turn when my car feels like it's starting to fishtail. So I correct the turn by turning slightly right and then I start heading for the guardrail and then I turn back left and headed back onto the straight path with some rocking back and forth.

Just to be clear:
1. The parking brake was not up.
2. I did not speed through the turn.
3. I feel pretty confident with my driving so please no "You can't drive" comments.

This has never happened to me before. I just want to give a warning to you guys of potential hazards, and hope you guys drive safely.

The road was dry. It's like 80+ degrees here in California.

If I were, I might have just spun out and hit something instead of being here telling you guys what happened.

But in all seriousness, it sure as hell scared the crap out of me.

I guess today isn't my lucky day. I had a server blow up on me earlier and now this. I have to go back to work at 4. Hope I can make it there in one piece.

I've never had a problem with wet roads neither. I just don't get how something like this could happen...

was the pavement uneven? Unless you heard the tires actually sliding I would be more prone to say it was torque steer.

did it "feel" like it was fishtailing or was it fishtailing? if you had the sensation of fishtailing when it wasn't, overcorrecting would send you toward the rail because you wouldn't have been actually fishtailing. know what i mean?

My first instinct is to say, look at the road. The symptoms you describe don't point to a car problem. That's not to say it isn't, its just not the most likely. Sand, oil, dead rodents, a pile of used condoms... who knows, its San Francisco isn't it?

The tires screeched. The only thing that I could think of is that the rear brakes didn't fully release.

I've driven this road countless times before, so I'm sure it's not the road.

OMG OMG OMG!! I BET IT IS!

I never said that it was a problem. I just said that this happened to me, and it looks like it happened to someone else... so it might not have been just a fluke. But thanks for your insight.

I felt the car just about come around and then I pulled it to the right. It all happened so fast so I might have remembered wrong. But I distinctively remember the car losing grip. Even if there was sand or dirt on the road, I don't think i was going fast enough for it to pose as a concern.
