TORRANCE, Calif., May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Scion, from Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today announced manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the 2006 Scion tC. The 2006 Scion tC sports coupe was the top-rated car in its segment according to the recent J.D. Power survey of initial quality. The tC will begin arriving at Scion dealerships next week.

The 2006 Scion sports coupe comes with additional interior standard equipment as well as a new audio upgrade. All tCs will now have a new three-spoke steering wheel with integrated audio controls and a redesigned Pioneer AM/FM/CD audio head unit. Scion is also offering music lovers a new, optional iPod compatible audio upgrade from Pioneer that integrates the world’s most popular digital music player with the car’s sound system, offering music navigation, power and display.

The 2006 tC’s new standard audio system features a centrally-located volume control **** and a mini-jack port located in the center console compartment that allows for connectivity to most portable music players. The mini-jack port allows users to listen to their portable music collection through the tC’s Pioneer speakers. This new unit still retains key Scion audio system features such as Scion Sound Processing (SSP) where listeners can choose from three pre-set equalizer settings, satellite radio compatibility and a user-customizable welcome screen.

Bringing iPod’s legendary experience to the car, a Pioneer AM/FM/CD head unit with iPod control is now available as an all-new accessory upgrade for the 2006 Scion tC. The tC is the first car in its class to integrate track, artist and album information from the iPod into a one-line display on the head unit’s screen. Connectivity is achieved by simply plugging the iPod into a port via a connector cable, providing outstanding sound quality through the car’s stereo system and constant power to the iPod. Music is controlled through the head unit and steering wheel buttons. The MSRP for this accessory upgrade is only $260, which includes installation.

The tC’s exterior remains unchanged with the exception of two new colors. Silver Streak Mica and Indigo Ink Pearl exterior colors will be replaced with Classic Silver Metallic and Nautical Blue.

With the additional standard equipment, prices for the 2006 Scion tC increase only $200 on all models, reflecting its great value. The MSRP for the Scion tC will be $16,200 with a manual transmission and $17,000 with an automatic transmission, reflecting a 1.3 and 1.2 percent increase, respectively.

I kind of felt that way too...then I realized, I'm in the middle of redoing my entire stereo with NAV, so at that point, had I waited, I would have useless controls on my sterring wheel

Default Bah

Controls ar enothign to cry over, least for me and most i know with a Tc, first thing that is ripped out si the stereo, and getting the adapter to make the steering wheel controls actually work with an after market isn't the easiest on soemthign so new. That and I think it takes away from the pretty wheel ^_^

Im just glad the exterior isn't changing.

yeah! SSM is officially discontinued! although it sold a lot at least there won't be any more. and as time goes on they will be rarer and rarer. although the CSM will probably be close to it and not noticable unless you know there is a difference. but yeah anyway!

i wish i had steering wheel controls only because i could put my radio cover down more. but i don't mind reaching around. i wonder what they look like on the wheel though. the article said new three spoke wheel. did that mean just because it has the controls or because it looks different too? hmm....

You could always get a stereo that has a stalk that you can stick to your wheel.. They make ones that are supposed to fit pretty well, but I never was interested in that, so I never researched it.

I just chatted w/ a Scion Customer Service person on their live chat and got bad news....the 06 deck cannot be retrofitted for the 05 and neither can the iPod accessory...

Zion: Hi Ryan
ryan: Hey there, how's it going this AM?
Zion: Not bad, and yourself?
ryan: Not too bad.
Zion: How may I help you today?
ryan: I have a question regarding the upcoming 2k6 tC and it's iPod accessory...
ryan: I read an article yesterday (http://www.mysan.de/article113758.html)
ryan: and it showed you released the upcoming model years MSRP, etc.. and mentioned the new deck being able to control an iPod.
ryan: is this feature going to be in any way backwards compatable w/ the 05?
Zion: This would apply for the deck upgrade, yes. As for retrofitting 05 models, this would not be applicable.
ryan: is it possible to purchase the 06 standard deck and the iPod accessory for the 05?
Zion: It is not.
ryan: Okay...well that stinks!
ryan: But oh well, never the less.
ryan: Thank you for your time.
Zion: I know, I agree.
Zion: Thanks as well, Ryan.
ryan: Later!

That sucks! I hope it somehow is untrue...but I'm bummed now.

That doesn't make any sense!!! So if std decks aren't available for purchase, what happens if the radio is stolen? Are you not allowed to purchase another one??? What if it breaks, after the warranty period is up? They're not going to let you buy a new one? You have to purchase the 6 disc only?? Are they going to tell people, "I need your vin number [ala rs1 style] before I can sell you those parts"???

There is *no* way that is going to be true. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you or the rep are lying, I fully beleive that conversation. I'm just syaing that by the time the 2006 cars are released, you will be able to buy the std 2006 headunit.

well, considering the fact that the steering wheel is going to have controls *and* the fact that there will be new hardware for you to be able to attach an mp3 player, i'm assuming that there will be new wiring and a new harness for the new head unit. therefore, you may not be able to just replace the head unit on an '05 out right. i'm sure someone will find the wiring diagram and you will be able to retrofit it, but i doubt it would be "officially" supported by scion so of course they are going to tell you that you can't because that is their official word.

and if you have the old head unit, you can always find people selling them on ebay if yours goes bad or gets stolen and i'm sure scion will keep a good number of them as well to cover any warranty issues over the next 2-3 years...

Regarding the retrofit, yeah, it's hard to say, but my thinking is pretty much in line with yours: expect to see no official support by scion for this, but much like retrfitting Is300 foglights to your tc, it *should* be doable.

In regards to the rep saying you would be unable to buy the 2006 std headunit ala cart, that's just plain idiocy. Hopefully, the rep just doesn't know what the hell s/he is talking about. Parts are *always* available ala cart, even the RS1 grill. Granted, sometimes they are priced in such a way that it discourages people from buying them, but to say "no, we won't be selling them at all" is just plain bad dumb.
