Locking Fuel Cap?

Locking Fuel Cap?
So my CEL came on and I checked my fuel cap and its ridoinkulously easy to remove so I assume that's what's wrong. Anyway does anyone know where I can get my hands on a locking fuel cap that works with the plastic wire the OEM attaches to? I can find a locking fuel cap, but not one that works with the cable. Dealership has the OEM one but it doesn't have a lock lol. I want both!

Just because it is easy to remove doesn't mean that's your problem... and even if it is, that doesn't mean buying a new "locking" cap is going to fix it.
What code are you showing? Is it an evap one? That could be a TON of things - not just the gas cap. Even if it is the gas cap, as long as you click it 3 or 4 times when you close it, there should not be a problem.

P0456 is the code I got. I assume its the gas cap because there's absolutely no resistance upon removal when I need to fill up. Usually there's some resistance prior to removing it..but there's none so that's why I think its the gas cap. Its the cheapest solution lol. I decided to try the cheapest solution and move up. I think my suspicions are reasonable, yea?

See if you can tighten up the connection on your gas cap first, then take the negative and positive terminals off your battery. Reset the car and then see what happens.
If that fails, consider taping the cap down so it won't move as tight as possible and repeat the process of resetting your car. If it shows no error, then you know for sure it is your gas cap.
Good luck and may the Force be with you.
EDIT:
I did a quick Google search of error code P0456, and most of it is returning the loose gas cap/evap leak. Others purport that if seating the gas cap does not rectify the problem, then you would have to get it tested to find out where the Evap Leak would be. Try that process I listed above and see what happens.

I had that code a few months ago, it's reasonable to start with the cheap solution and go from there, but taping it shut or taping a plastic bag over it would be a good way to test your suspicions.
In my case, there was apparently something wrong with the pump I had been using (had a habit of filling up at the exact same pump at the same gas station on my way to work) and going to a different station made the code disappear. It was very odd.

Your car got sick from eating too much Taco Bell, so going to Chick fil-A fixed that.

At one point it also threw a P0441 so my guess is that some bad gas got into the charcoal canister and temporarily clogged it. But I don't really care since it's not throwing any codes now
Sorry to derail your thread op, but it's something to try if the gas cap isn't the problem. Doesn't really cost you much if anything to try a different gas station either.
