LOOKING TO PURCHASE A TC BUT HAVE ??'S
I currently own a Mazda Protege and it has a very small aftermarket (performance parts, body kits, etc.). How capable do you think the TC is for high HP numbers? Do you think it will have awesome potential? How do you think the aftermarket will turn out for the car? Will it be as big as the Civic or performance oriented Japanese cars? Just a few ?'s Thanks.
I dont' think it will get as big as the Civic, but all Scions seem to be all about after market. I mean, look at all the stuff already out for the xA and xB which have only been out a little over a year, right?
For some reason, mazda just doesn't seemto have much after market. I mean, I just recenlty started seeing stuff for the Protege5, and it's already been replaced by the Mazda3 5door.
But the fact that scion models are only supposed to last 5 years may have some negative effect on the aftermarket potential off the car. But overall, Toytas have a good deal of aftermarket stuff, and the 2.4 liter deffinately has great potential.
my $0.02

thats true. I was looking at the WRX or the SRT-4 but they are way more expensive so the Scion came to mind because i think its the best bang for the buck! i know both the srt-4 and wrx have great potential but since the scion seems to be an awesome car im just curious about how it will perform. thanks for the reply, anyone else?
I think the TC is going to have some pretty good after market part potential. Toyota has kinda built the scion line around this feature ie customize the car to your tastes. The Tc has only been out a few months and look at what TRD has for parts already. With the release of the the super charger it will make that 2.4 l tc engine a heck of a lot stronger and Ive heard a lot of car mode shops talking about turbo kits and stuff. With the car being as popular as it is I think we will see some pretty cool parts come out on the market soon. I don't think it will top the honda civic due to scions limited run of about 5 years but hey I could be wrong. The Tc is a wonderful car to mod and I have high hopes for it. Either way its one kick ___ little car for a hell of a price.
There seems to be many companies in the middle of producing a turbo kit fore the tC...not to mention TRD's supercharger...
2 ways to go...my opinion:
Turbo - More power, but voids warranty...
Super - Less power, but keeps warranty...
Forced induction is a great way to greatly increase HP, but nowhere near as much as NOS does...But, it's a lot safer, and legal in all areas...where NOS is legal in select states...
CAI, Exhaust, Intake Manifold, FIS, Rods, Headers, FMS...all ways to increase HP, if you do them all, you're talking some serious power...But, 4 Cylinders aren't meant to reach 300 HP...you'll have to do some engine reinforcement to contain all that power...that much HP in a stock engine will kill it very very quickly...
Go 1 step at a time, and always ask proffessionals...
tC - EXTREME Potential...

if your looking for pure power portential the tiburon v6 is another contender in this dept. Its got alot of potential. we have people running over 400hp at the crank. or 350whp on thes tock block and stock internals.
The tib responds great to boost, and simple mods, and on the 6speed we have clutch's capable of 600ft/lb of torque and limited slips for that too.
The TC will get a ton of aftermarket support and it will have alot more potential in power than the civic, but not as much as the Tib.
Another car to consider might be the srt-4 used 2003. Their damn quick, but new, you can find better and faster.

the Tibi felf wierd to me when I drove it. It has a high waistline, knotchy shifter and was really heavy in the front going around corners. I would never get an srt-4...it's still a Neon, but yeah, it is damn quick and cheap! Now, I love the WRX, but it's a turbo on a 2.0 liter 4. I've known people blow WRXs away with a turbo on the 2.5 Impreza. So, if you figure an aftermarket turbo on the 2.4 tC...
Yeah, you'll have to beef up the clutch, transmition, etc to handle the power, but I can see a beefed up tC keeping up with a WRX. I don't know about the STI, but the WRX for sure!

a wrx truly isnt that fast. its just got awd laucnh so from a light its quick, ont he highway its not much to deal with..
Imagine a turbo 2.7 v6 tho in the tib running 9 psi putting 300whp to the ground. even the sti would get smoked.
But either way best thing is test drive all the cars your considering. see what u like.
I think the aftermarket will be great for the tC! With a s/c or turbo it'd definately become a contender... do other stuff and it'll kick ****!
I like the tC because it isn't like every other car out on the road. I'm tired of seeing tons of Civics and Accords on the road. It looks different, it performs well for a 16k car, and I don't doubt that it'll get bigger, even beyond TRD!
Get the car you want. Our opinions may help, but get the one you feel comfortable with, and the one that makes you feel good about yourself.
