I have a manual tc. I have noticed that when downshifting/breaking in really bumpy roads going over 25mph it almost seems like the breaks lock for a few seconds and almost make me lose control. Anyone know wtf is going on ? Has it happened to anyone else? Help me figure this out.

 

I'm sorry to say I have no idea. How many miles does it have and how bumpy are the roads you drive on?

 

ABS acts funny like that. My 2000 corolla that has ABS used to do the same thing. It sounds like the brakes are locking up, but actually the ABS is taking over and not letting the brakes lock up. BTW, I hate it when that happens to me too.

 

well on bumpy roads the tires are bouncing up and down and the abs thinks the wheels are locking up etc.. try giving yourself more time and apply the breaks more gently and see if it helps. also the break distribution may be getting confused. these electronics aren't always as smart as they first seem.

i could be very wrong, just my experience and 2 cents.

 

yeah, I usually slow down before I hit the bumpy parts. I know what your talking about losing control and I dont want that to happen and cause an accident or even hit a pedestrian. So be more cautious and slow down before you hit the bumpy parts on familiar roads.

 

yes exactly. this is your abs doing its work. the tires are going over rough surfaces, tCinHou nailed it. fast deceleration on gravel and rough roads = abs

 

yep, its your ABS in combination with not the stickiest tires in the world,

the tires spin, your ABS makes thunking noises.

all I can tell you is that the tires aren't supposed to lock at all. At least im my car I have tried many times and when the ABS feels that is going to happend all it does is to lose the brakes. All I feel is the bunch of pulsations at once from the ABS but no locking. Once again, that's just my car (xA). And yes I hate when that happens in bumpy roads, it feels like the car is never going to stop when I want it to.

 

You can thank your ABS for that. If you have a real car that doesn't have ABS like ours they don't do that. The Celica I had didn't have ABS and it braked 10X better.

 

I agree completely.

Just wait for the posts with all the statistics......they're coming....how many lives saved, stopping distance, etc. I started an "I hate ABS" thread and was told I was an idiot for a week. I feel I can brake faster and actually feel safer being in full control.

 

One thing that is kinda bothering me about my tC is that the rear rotors just about look brand new without hardly any break pad marks.... Of course I know the front breaks are doing most of the work, and it shows, but I can still clearly see the cross-hatching machining marks on my rear rotors....as if the rears aren't even hooked up!
I have about 1500 miles on the car now. The E-break does work btw.
Is this normal, or is there a mis-biasing with the digital proportional hydrolics???
