Default Moon roof air leak/noise

I have a 2005 tC. About a year after buying it, the moon roof started to develop an air leak. It produces a high pitched whistle when you get around 40 mph and above. Tried cleaning and lubricating the rubber seal which helped for about a day. It recently has gotten much louder and much more annoying! Besides being extremely annoying, I am becoming concerned that it may begin to leak. Upon closer inspection, it seems the the glass is not closing as tightly to the rubber gasket as it should. If you push on the moon roof from outside it will seal better. I tried to locate nuts or screws to see if I could tighten down the glass but was not able to find any. Does anyone know of a fix or a service bulletin/recall for this problem? I would HUGELY appreciate it. Thanks!

have you reset it? (holding the button for a few secs)?

Just throwing that out there..that happens to some people after they disconnect the battery.

take it to the dealer they should put in new weather stripping. I had the same problem and they took care of it.

it may be covered even if your warranty is over due to recalls on the sunroof before

good luck, hope you get that fixed

i just had the weather stripping at the top of the windshield where it meets the roof glued down.

i was at a car wash, and i saw that when it got blow dried, the stripping came right up in the middle. took it to the dealership, they referred me to their glass guy, he said that it just seems like a bad design on toyotas part and he's seen alot of them having problems with it. he just poppped it up, and put whatever kinda glue, i think urethane or something to hold it down, and thus thusly the problem has been resolved.

so check and see if the weather stripping is coming up and get it put back down.

DO NOT TAKE TO DEALER. If you are out of warranty they will charge you for some bs like 'tighten sunroof cable'. All they do, and what you should do, is with the ignition key on, hold the sunroof close button for about 15 seconds (a longer time than you think) until the motor pulls down on the sunroof. This will set a new position for close, and your problem will be gone without the hassle or expense of going to the dealer.

I can't believe it. This did the trick! I knew about resetting the position, but according to what I had previously read, you only had to hold the button for 5 seconds or so. It never gave the indication of if it was resetting or not. 15 seconds clearly reset the closed position.... snapped it down TIGHT to the seal. THANKS AGAIN dontknoa!!!

Welcome. If you see this question pop up again, spread the knowledge. Dealers WILL charge people for this... "service"... if they bring it in.

Default THANK YOU!!

I've been dealing with this for months and kept hearing "dealer" or "3-4 seconds to reset". I tried this and have no more noise! If you ever get this far east I owe you an adult beverage.

Also to make sure you don't have problems in the future, it's a good idea to occasionally (depending on how often you have the sun/moon roof open) clean the track and remove any dirt/small tree branch pieces/objects that might cause it to fail to close. And while you're up there snooping, grab some silicone spray after it's all clean and lube up the track as well as wipe off the rubber seals. All that should make for a long-lasting, minimally-troubled roof life.
