The drawback to the "get a lawyer" idea is that lawyers aren't cheap, and someone has to pay them. Usually a lawyer expects that someone to be the client.

So I clarified what they told me and asked "so for 2 weeks, I don't have a car because you guys are slow in getting to me?" their answer: "yes." It wasn't just one bad service rep, because all in all I called them about 3 times, wrote an e-mail, was polite for the first half of our discussions, until they began to aggravate me, and I really think I did everything in my power to try and get my problem solved. They didn't go out of their way for me, that's for sure.

All you people that are always telling people to call scion obviously have never had a problem with your car. That phone number is useless when everytime there's a problem they need to get everything inspected, and who knows who these people are that they need 2-4 weeks to get to you (why can't a dealer inspect it, for example?). I don't know what to tell you, me personally after my experience with scion, I'd get a lawyer immediately if I ever have a warranty claim not being fulfilled, because there's no way I'll ever let scion push me around like that again. All I know is you can't fix your car until it's inspected so you're looking at 5-6 weeks minimum.
Wow, ever think to call the dealership you bought you car at? Anyone? What is calling Scion going to do if you have a problem with your car? You obviously have insurance, call them, let them deal with your dealership, let them figure out if it was a defective part on the car. Why bother calling Scion?

My bet is, your ball joint broke. This joint is the pivot point for the tire, and is a load bearing joint. It should NOT fail anytime under 100k miles, and failing results in exactly the symptom you described...wheel buckling (but staying on the car) and complete loss of steering. It could be that the protective boot around the joint (keeps out dirt and small children ) was torn, but still that shouldn't cause it to fail on a brand new car.

This part will be covered under warrantee.

To hear of a ball joint failing (if that is what happened) on a brand new car is very disturbing... had this happened on the highway the consequences would've been much more dire.

Did you notice any other symptoms befoer this happened? Like poor alignment? Sometimes when I stop, my wheel sometimes jerks to one side.

gees, that is frightening. I can't even imagine that happening at highway speed. What rav said...ball joint possible. Unreal. Makes me want to grab a flashlight and head out to the driveway for an inspection.

Definitely keep us in the loop as to what happens. I'm curious to see how this turns out. Did you end up calling back Scion Customer Service or did you call your dealer for help?

Was the tire leaning, or just turned (as if it was not attached to the steering system)? If it was the latter, I would bet on a cotter pin being left out of the tie rod nut... causing it to spin off. I am glad to hear you were not running at highway speed.

Sooo... 5 people just happened to be watching you drive by. And all 5 of them you say, saw your wheel buckle. Call me paranoid, but that sounds like they may have known something was up.

I am still unclear, did you take it to the dealer? This is a warranty issue, has nothing to do with it being a lemon. Insurance should not have to get involved, customer care should not be involved unless the dealer denies your warranty claim. Calling the dealer is all you should have to do. If a tie rod end came loose (which is what it looks like happened) then it is a cut and dry warranty repair.

i had to get the insurance involved because i hit another car
and for the spectators question
they were all outside just chillin having a smoke
and they saw the nice scion tc driving up =]

and i mean if youre on a narrow street and there is a car driving by, its instinct to just watch it right?

and my tire just turned it didnt lean or anything

an engineer is being sent out from my insurance company on tuesday so ill keep you guys updated on what happens

And they're all sticking to that story?

They just HAPPENED to all be having a smoke and watching you drive as you pulled your car out of your driveway, where they likely have seen your car many times already...??

As you say, it's a narrow street...that means those people could reasonably not only know your car, but also when you come and go.

I seen this happen before. My buddies played a cruel prank on someone and loosened the nuts on the his rear wheel. He was going thru a slight turn and his tire flew off.

ummm why wouldnt they stick to the story?
thats what they saw

and i found out what exactly happened to my car from them
when i crashed i had no idea my right tire freaked..

i got out and they ran up to me and told me the whole thing... about how i should be on toyota's ___ right now asking for a new car

and they dont live right in front mf me.

my street is like a half-mile long
and they live on the other end

AND half of the people were the home owners' friends

Mine does the same thing sometimes.... Is this common? Should I call/bring it into my dealership?
