Default New Design Floor Mats?

Did anyone else notice on the RS 1.0 tC the floormat design is different? I remember some people talking about wear-through on the floormats and it looks like they are now putting a plastic pad where the wear was occuring now? Is there anyway for current owners to get the newer style or do we have to develop that problem first?

You should talk to your dealer. I plan on getting my driver's mat replaced under warranty when I take my car in to get the sunroof rattle fixed. It's possible that the new mats for the tC have the rubber pad like the RS mats. I haven't seen any mention of it on the board, but your dealer might know.

Why would the driver's mat be covered under warranty?? Isn't that considered wear and tear?

I think there was some mention of some wearing out incredibly fast, so that's why they would replace one under warranty.

I haven't gotten all of my warranty information yet.. Or even really looked at the stuff I got. hehe. Are floormats mentioned in there as being covered?

My drivers floor mat needs tobe replaced and I've only had my car since november. My buddy's focus has zero wear on the mats and he's had his car for 2 years.

Yeah I have a nice hole straight through the carpetting down to the rubber undermat. It's right under the clutch, and I know my shoe doesn't rub that much.... what a joke. I'll swing by the dealer and see what can be done.

this is good to hear, I have a hole on the mat between the gas and brake...

If you have a hole under your clutch, I would assume you ride your clutch... yikes! Move that foot to the left when you're not "chifting"

I don't ride the clutch But I do have large feet, and being a tall guy doesn't help either. Plus these mats are just cheap as hell anyway. The carpetting couldn't possible be more than 2 millimeters thick at best.

do you left foot brake?

is there a hole under the gas pedal? That's where most wear would be I would assume.

either way, we need better mats

That's good to know. I'm not going to spend $70 bucks on some floormats that will only last me half a year or so.

The floor mats are horrible. You would expect higher quality materials for the price of the thing... ridiculous

I just never bothered using the carpet pieces in the first place, who needs the trouble of cleaning them or worrying about wear?

Hmm, anyone with wear and tear on their carpets buy them from online from mcgeorges or partznet? I have a hole in mine, noticed it after reading this post. Do we get a warranty then and at least send over a replacement carpet part for the drivers or are we stuck with it.

i was thinking of emulating what they did with the RS 1. I might be able to sew a surface on like they did. I'll have to look into that later.

I've heard that the mats are only covered under warranty if you order them along with the car. Then they're under the 3 year bumper to bumper.

Try this:

1. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get some good outdoor carpet pieces. (not much $$)

2. Use the old mat as a template.

3. Cut the new carpet to fit.

4. Install in rubber bottom piece.

I'm going to do this if mine wear out - the carpet section has been out for 5 months due to winter - so they still look new.

This way you should be able to customize it a bit too.

Post pics if anyone does it.

Happy motoring.

The thing that is funny about people replying to things as "rice" is tht no one ever seems to ge offended. I guess that's cause the people who are "rice" don't think they are.

There is nothing as baffling as ambiguous slander!
