I was really quite amazed at the difference the turbo actually made. Until you experience the difference, there's really no point of reference....and it's only set at 8 lb of boost and running the factory preset Unichip pnp. With a good tune, this setup could really sing!

I'd equate it to shooting a bullet versus throwing it....

I just changed the oil to Royal Purple this afternoon. I hope it helps extend the life of the oil-cooled turbo. That crap is expensive!

wrapping a cast iron manifold = doesn't do antyhing but keep engine temp down

Yeah... I know it's carbon fiber. But it still just looks off. My opinion - don't think it looks great..

There's probably a good reason for that. It's an older piece and the sun has had it's way with it. Here's a closup:

It's in need of replacement!

Ok, I did some more research on the wrap. The reason that it cracks pieces is because when the metal parts expand, the wrap does not allow it to move freely, causing stress. If you wrap it when it's at operating temperature, you should be good to go.

So how are you liking boost? I'm not liking 93 octane... however, I am chipping my car in the near future to justify it. Woosh!

So far, I couldn't be happier! I bought a Greddy oil-catch tank to fix the direct flow of the breather hose into the intake pipe....should be here by Thursday or so.

The 93 octane is a drag to buy, but so far I haven't seen a dramatic decrease in MPG, so I'm not too upset about it. The gains are certainly worth the hassle!

I'm really sorry you had to get rid of this kit, and I hope you get another one really soon! Looking at manual boost controlers (or making one!) and AFR gauges.....

Any advice?

turbo xs makes good stuff as far as manual boost controllers go, but I would check with turbonetics before turning up the boost. I think that you have to have the unichip reprogrammed if you mess with boost levels. I would ask around in the FI forum and see what the guys that have had the kit for a while say. They would know better than me. If you get AFR, you've got to get a wideband. The narrow band AFR gauges that bounce the light back and forth won't tell you anything. AEM makes a good one. they are pretty expensive but it's an important gauge to have.

This is one of the cleanest looking cars on the site, in my opinion. The fact that it has a turbo is just a bonus! I'd like to get a ride in this car someday.

I got an Autometer pillar pod cover that goes over the existing interior pannel. the gauges sit kinda low and this may be an option for you. I'd be happy to post pictures of it if you'd like. :D
