find yourself a good program for autmotive, something local might be a little cheapier, or if your parents could fork over some cash i recommend trying Wyotech, or something like that..

here in So. Cal theres a school in Woodland Hills, called Pierce College.. and i went to there auto program.. it was a great school.. and gave you all the hands on experience..(was also great for working on my own vehicle, cause they had all the tools and a lift..)

Proper english is extremely important in any engineering field. That being said, Purdue University in Indiana is supposed to be one of the top schools in the U.S. for automotive engineering.

I can't tell you specifically for automotive, but I went for mechanical engineering to become an aerospace engineer. Going with mechanical engineering meant my training wasn't so specific to aircraft that I couldn't find something else if aerospace was in a downturn when I graduated (it was, BTW). So I worked in the marine industry for a while and now have been at Boeing commercial for years, doing exactly what I wanted (flight deck design).

So you may want to consider a wider discipline to keep your options open. Automobile manufacturers need mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, fluid engineers, etc.

Don't know if this helps, but I hope so.

Lawl, I went to Pierce College for two years. It sucked *****. Totally overcrowded. But hey, I'm not in the automotive field, so maybe their auto program is good. I transferred over to DeVry and I'm about to graduate, w00t!

i didnt attend the rest of the school, just the automotive part of it.. and it was fun a great experience there.. i also took some classes sponsored by Galpin Ford, the same program thats only offered at UTI.. a difference of $27 a unit vs $25,000 a semester..

Yeah if there was anything good about Pierce, it was the price. I attended right up to my limit of transferrable units. I had to stop and transfer out when I reached 60something units because the 4-year schools want you to at least pay for two years of overpriced tuition.

I am currently enrolled in the T-TEN program. Toyota technical education network, it is training for toyota and is a good program. The advantage of this program over others is that you need general education classes to get the degree. These are classes like english, math, first aid and things like that. It gives you more than just the technical part. I think the closest program near you is in NC, you have to be working at a toyota dealership before you go to t-ten, some dealers help pay for the program.

i hate how the term "engineer" is used so liberally. Everyone is an engineer now. The trash guys around here call themselves "sanitary engineers". It ____es me off because I have 7 years of college to be able to call myself an engineer. /vent

well sanitary engineers are engineers in what they do.. they engineer the right recipe of how to pile the garbage at the dump, with the right materials so it isnt lethal for the public..

it all really depends one what kinda of engineer you are? *blank* engineer.

(not trying to kill this thread.. just trying to clear something up )

as someone said...PURDUE

of course I'm biased because i go there, but it really is a good engineering school. I also see that you are from Tennessee. Purdue is about an hour/hour and a half north of Indy so it's not too far from where you live.
