Default Options my wife is considering - comments please?

Hi all,

My wife is all set to order her Black Cherry Pearl m/t tC and has come up with the following wish list of options:
Light Kit $250
Scion Security $469
Cargo Liner $104
Sport Pedal Covers $79
Auto Dimming Mirror $310
Floor Mats & Cargo Mat $145
AM/FM 6-Disc CD $395
Sport Muffler $525

I am dubious of the $525 muffler and $469 security system. I know the tack-on bin is where the dealership is making its margins, but can anyone comment on the value-added of her choices (please, beyond its a matter of personal choice)? I am questioning the value of the bells and whistles of the security system, although I suppose it is a comforting feature to have the interior lights come on while approaching the car at night. Does the standard keyless entry do that too? I don't think I'll talk her out of the muffler, but can anyone comment on just how throatier it makes the exhaust? Any performance bonus (i.e. backpressure)?

The cargo liner was picked because we will be hauling around our two dogs, so it seemed a smart investment beyond the piece of carpeting for the cargo area that comes with the floor mats.

She is also going to have the dealer upgrade the cloth upholstery to leather. Has anyone been through this and can comment? Do they just sew it on over the existing cloth? Wouldn't that change the clearances and fit and feel of the seating surfaces (beyond cloth versus leather)?

Thanks in advance,
Bushido

the exhaust sounds pretty good. as far as performance gains, i don't know. the security system is nice, but you could probably get a better one from an aftermarket company that will do more. the leather, we have done it here, it doesn't seem to change the seating much, if at all.

hope this helps a little

with all that crap... you;ll be so upside down you'll have to keep the car forever...

why add 20% of the price of the car on in accessories?

Light Kit $250 -> Overpriced. Can do a lot cheaper aftermarket.
Scion Security $469 -> Can get a much better one with pager feature and an LCD indicator screen installed at Best Buy for $350.
Cargo Liner $104-> Good Idea if you have a dog..what's the difference between this and the Cargo mat?
Sport Pedal Covers $79 -> Waste of money. Can buy aftermarket or on partznet for much cheaper.
Auto Dimming Mirror $310 -> Waste of money IMO.
Floor Mats & Cargo Mat $145 -> Can get cheaper on partznet, but good luck finding a tC without this.
AM/FM 6-Disc CD $395 -> The only useful thing is the color changing screen. Otherwise, the stock unit has MP3 playback so you can have way more then 6 CDs in there.
Sport Muffler $525 -> Up to you, if you like the sound... go for it. Be ready for every 16 year old in town wanting to race you on his Accord

Hope that helps...

What is that, the new hyperbole math? We'll be paying cash, but thanks anyway for your concern about our financial future. What I was hoping for was some substantive comments from actual owners. Maybe this isn't the right forum....

Thanks for playing anyway.

here from an owner...

Light Kit $250.....skiped it. yes it looks pretty, but doesnt make the car any faster.
Scion Security $469....i like it so I got it , its under warrany, and it does it job.
Cargo Liner $104 ...?? they have that? may be a good investment since you have dogs
Sport Pedal Covers $79 ...i wanted them, they look nice, but they are cheeper elsewhere and are easy to install yourself
Auto Dimming Mirror $310 ...i tint my windows so i dont need it.
Floor Mats & Cargo Mat $145 ....i got them they look and fit perfect. but you can get them cheeper online
AM/FM 6-Disc CD $395 ...i got it, i like the features and its under warranty.
Sport Muffler $525 ...I Love It! Sounds beautiful, specially in parking garages. A lot deeper that what I was expecting. Also helps me figure out when to switch gears. =o)

The nice thing about getting all of these options are they are covered. Its up to you. You can buy all the same stuff for cheeper online. you may want to do that with the matts, pedals, and liner.

Hey RussiantC,

Thanks for the insight. I am with you on the security system. Most of our (home) digital music is in ogg format, so MP3s are not so attractive. I can't shake her from that muffler even though I think a catback makes more sense from a performance standpoint. The cargo liner is a treated piece of canvas that hooks on over the rear seatbacks too, so that when you put it in full hauling mode you keep the munge and dog hair off of the seatbacks. The trim stuff, I just think she wants the dealer to have to take care of it and doesn't mind paying for the convenience.

Thanks again,
B

I'd recoomend going off of Partznet.com for most of those reatures. I got my b pillers, AEM cold air intake, shift ****, & floor mats in total for about 200 less than what the dealership is charging.

All you do is pay for shiping and you get the parts at wholesale!

Great deal in My honest Opinion.

As for the Auto Tinting mirror, they need to label this better...

Not only does it auto tint, but it has 3 programmable buttons for a garage door opener or two, or other remote controlled devices, as well as a map light which I hear is cool.

Good times.

Sport pedals... Skip em. Not worth $80 bucks. I paid $15 for my billet Aluminum ones, they match the interior, and they feel oh so nice.

tC4me,

Thanks. I think she's nuked the brake pedal covers too. Any links on some nice ones? Another poster mentioned some billet aluminum covers. I'd like to look at those. The mirror she wants because it has the garage door opener and other programming options. No window tinting in her immediate future either. Sounds like the consensus is the TRD muffler is a go. Nice video on the site from a crazy tC owner pushed her over the edge.

Thanks again,
B

Not to get into an internet ____ing match, but...

Light Kit $250
Scion Security $469
Cargo Liner $104
Sport Pedal Covers $79
Auto Dimming Mirror $310
Floor Mats & Cargo Mat $145
AM/FM 6-Disc CD $395
Sport Muffler $525

is $1617

Now add in the leather for another $1200-1500 and you are damn near 20% of a stock tC's price (not quite, but close enough for an off the cuff guess).

We'll be paying cash, but thanks anyway for your concern about our financial future.
Great... glad to make you feel all warm and fuzzy.

I will be an owner as soon as mine gets here (paying cash too, does that make you feel special to know that other people pay cash for their cars too?).

I was just trying to help. It's a $16k car. Whether you add $3k worth of stuff to it or not...

Thank you for playing.

Thanks for tip. We checked out their website and the dealer's jaw dropped when we showed up with the printouts. Our salesman even copied the URL for his own use. We ordered her tC in BCP last night and left off all of the trim stuff that she can add later from partznet or another supplier. I did a little exploring around the showroom and we saw some pedal covers (I think they were for an xB) in a display case. We turned to each other and said $80 for WHAT???

Thanks again,
B
