I'm staying out of this argument, but I just want to state my observation and a resolution.

I noticed that a lot of the people asking repeated questions are those who just joined. I know if I had a question and I just registered, using the search feature would probably not even cross my mind.

Maybe after they submit the info needed to make an account here, a screen came up that read something along the lines of: "Thanks for registering at ScionLife.com! Before you make that first topic, be sure to use the search button located at the top of this screen to make sure your question hasn't already been answered."

Just my thought...

not to be mean paulky but just answering a question. torquetc, im stating that those people who try to sell something, i.e a shift **** and they search for a random pic of their product on google and copy the url and paste it to their sale or dont even bother to post their pics. and then when u get it, its all F**Ked up. i hate it. ok

back to topic. yes we were all new at one point. its all opinions i guess.

if i tell anyone to search.. it's more.. search next time.. and then post up links on the various threads already open on the subject... i point them to the door.. i won't tell anyone the answer.. more where to find it.. (like you wanted right?)

if i close other threads.. it is to prevent others from jumping on the flaming bandwagon.

an individual needs to learn to be independent.. and for certain people... it takes an amount of bluntness to suffice.

those that are new to the site need to know that they stand out, and by posting new threads asking questions already covered, it does not help in anyway to show to others they they are indeed... new.

i am a strong supporter of people helping themselves... and in my case.. i want to help people to help themselves... however blunt i may or may not have to be about it.

also.. i'll take your wager for flaming posts vs. repeat questions.

Sorry for trying to bring a nasty habit to bear...

I see where you are coming from paulky, but what you are talking about will never change. There are always gonna be people who try to elevate themselves by putting others down and there will always be those who are quick to simply reply, "search."

There's nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others

sorry paulky... hard numbers would take a substantial amount of time to collect.. at which point the only thing we can do is to just call the wager off... as my time spent here would probably not be adequate enough to satisfy your disgruntlement towards those that put down others.

i know it's really discerning for someone new to come onboard to ask a question.. but most people don't realize you'll get that in most forums you'll go to.. esp. those that are very large such as this one.

whenever i register for a new forum.. i do what EVERYONE should do... read the rules.. and search the site yourself... do not bring attention to yourself and quietly blend in, posting in already existing threads for the most part.

those are things that should take into common sense...

the reason why searching is so difficult on this site at times is because of the fact that people didn't search.. creating more and more threads to dig through to find the answer that you seek.

whenever i have to search.. yeah.. i'll look through and dig through the hundreds, sometimes thousands of threads created to find what i need. i may be a mod, but my searching capabilities are nothing more than special and everyone has the same capabilities..

i will NOT tolerate, however, individuals who want to get spoon fed.

Before I post anything, I will search. If I can't find the answer, I'll start a thread. It does get a little old seeing the same questions for simple things that could be found by searching. For example, just last week or so, on the first page alone, there were probably about 5 threads that had to do with HIDs. Was it necessary, probably not. That is why I believe people get rude and say OMG noob, search. All that people are asking out of a newer member, or anyone for that matter, hit the button and take 5 minutes of your time before you start a thread about yet another set of ebay tails or foglights.

I agree with that completely. Just addressing those who are outwardly nasty about it.

Let's face it...there are dense people in every walk of life. But not everyone that re-posts a topic deserves a snap insult....as per some members....

the reason most people end up getting annoyed is b/c there are already 2 billion posts on here about choosing a brand and type of air intake, and yet people ask again and again saying "well i read all this stuff about them on other posts, but BOOM and they ask the SAME question again, as if somehow responses are going to be different this time. people have some sort of grace period to ask dumb questions, but other people (forpinks, for example) insisted upon asking the same noob questions for months. that's why people get irritated. if people hadn't told me to search when i had just joined SL, i'd still be here asking dumb questions and making people give me the same answers over and over.

p.s.- you can just be like "well if you don't have a good answer just don't reply to the OP." problem with that is the OP will eventually make another post being like "why isn't anyone answering, this is supposed to be a knowledgeable forum." that's when the flaming really gets fun
