Default Possibly buying a Scion TC, any input?

I am looking to find a new daily driver car. Something sporty, quick, and low cost. The scion caught my eye. I really don't know anyone who has one personally, so I was wondering if you guys could give me your experiences and opinions with yours? Any help is appreciated! Thanks

After owning one for 2 years I can say its a great car for the money and very reliable. I bought the car relatively stock, ( dealer installed fog lights and spoiler ) and have been having fun adding the different scion mods when I have extra cash. ( www.trdsparks.com will be your friend!!)

During the two years I haven't had to pay for an oil change once (Scion paid for 3 and dealer gave 1st for free) and the only unscheduled maintenance I've had to do was a wheel bearing at 18k. Other than that it has been trouble free. (I think for the 07 model year and up Scion pays for the 5k and 10k maintenance so you get the tire rotations for free)

One warning about the car, it will rattle. Everyone here has a rattle and has their own remedies for them. Unfortunately the dealers haven't been very good with fixing them from what I hear. Although there are some TSB's out that may or may not work. My remedy for my small rattle is to turn the radio up and remember that for 17k I got a heck of a lot of features.

Also, we are not the only ones with the rattles. Lincoln's MKX with the all glass roof rattles like crazy as well. Luckily we paid 17k for the tC not 45k like the Lincoln customers did.

^ x2 ^

While I have only had mine for a about 2 weeks I already have a very small tickish rattle somewhere in the car. It bothered me a lot at first because I only have 200ish miles on it but it really only makes the noise when going over really rough road so I might hear it anywhere from 2 to 8 times on the way to work while I go over uneven roads and stuff. Other than that the car has been really good. Cant comment on reliability yet because it is so new but compared to other cars with the same features its a hell of a deal.

I got this deal with my 08 tc. they said that they no longer give out the oil changes anymore, but they do the 5k and 10k services free.

So you lose an oil change... but gain 2 free tire rotations.

i bought mine about four weeks ago, and i absolutely love it. it is my daily driver, and i got the black sand pearl with a five speed. it's got plenty of pep, and tons of fun to row through the gears. i was also looking at mustang gt's, accord coupes, civic si, used g35 coupe, used 530i, etc, etc. i couldn't find anything of better value for fun modability than the tc. i plan on keeping it for a good 8 - 10 years, and fully believe it will last at least that long. haven't had any issues at with it, and got the upgraded radio as well - love it! the other reason i got it was because i don't like taking my vehicles in for service that i can do myself. parts are relatively cheap, and i don't need thousands of dollars in software to diagnose it.

good luck on your search!

Oh, I guess it must be 08 and up then. I am not sure which is a better deal really. These are both maintenance items which anyone can do on their own. It's just convenient to let the dealership do it for free instead. I am at 13,000 miles and I still have a free oil change left, so that's good.

Had mine for 26 months.
It's a great car.
Had only one little problem- the wiring on the front driving lights went bad.
They replaced it under warranty.
Other than that, I got mine loaded from the dock and have put on a few things to make it look nicer.
Still looks new - I'm trying to get my daughter to buy one too.

Good luck,
Scott

an extra 1,500 - 2,000 dollars can get you a new one w/ no dealler accessories around here atleast.

When I was shopping a used 06tC auto with a few accessories, shift **** fog lights door sills would have cost me 17,500! that thing had around 50K on the odo. bought my 07 for an extra 1,500 w/ extended warranty bone stock. Some stuff you can buy online at a very good price, dealer wanted 300for floor mats? you can get them for around 150 online.

I think he meant buy a better car that's been used.
If I were stuck around this price range, i'd get a new Lancer GTS. Looks amazing, not quite as quick as a tC, but who cares, and probably handles a hell of a lot better.

this is my third car and by far i love it the best....i got mine loaded with options and it was still under 23,000 so i dont regret it at all i did little things here and there but for the money you cant go wrong....i mean i went from a GLX VR6 jetta to a RSX type S to a tC and i mean this car is not only fun to drive but fun to look at and mess around with...the only thing i can say is drive it and go from there.....

Just in case you dint know the biggest hit a car takes when it comes to depreciation is right when its taken off the dealership lot.
you can save allot of money by having someone else take it off the lot. you can pay that extra 1.500-2000 if you want, but i would wrathed buy a tc with a few miles on it (10-15k) and save or spend that 2k on parts.

i bought mine after after a legacy of 3 Hondas. The last one was great, but i wanted something new and decided on the tC. Its great!!, i love the car, and youll be pleased for sure!! like the others have said, buying new gets you a lot of reduced maintenance costs, and so far, at the 7k mile mark, i have had no issues out side of an idiot backing into me. : ( Going in the shop next week though!

Move on a tC , you wont regret it!!
