Default Problem with '05 tC's A/C

It's been quite a while since I've been on SL but I'm back with an issue on my '05 tC. Wanted to see if this was a problem that has been creeping up on the older tC's or if it's unique.

For the last 2-3 weeks, my A/C has been acting up. I would randomly have to turn it all the way up for the fan to turn on. The inside/outside ventilation worked fine and it would still be cold when it would turn on.

As of about 3-4 days ago, it stopped turning on completely. The inside/outside ventilation still works and the thermostat still works. It's just the fan that won't turn on.

Anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this? Is it something I could do myself or would I have to take it in to a shop? All I can say is thank god that it's winter or else I'd be dieing without A/C.

Ouch. That's pretty rough man.

So I'm guessing from the lack of posts on this that it's not a common problem with a simple fix and will have to take it in. Not looking forward to this one. =/

if you're saying that the blower fan isn't working, then that's a relay that controls that blower function. The a/c itself is actually the compressor, condensor, and evaporator, the blower is just the air fan that blows the air out of your vents.

the relay that controls the blower is right next to the blower under the glovebox area. might want to check that.

the other possibility is that the fan controls on the hvac board have died, now I have seen that some tC's pre-07 (07's had a lot of board issues) have died and needed to be replaced. I think that the ledmod guy was selling the boards for $75 which then you'd have to transfer all the buttons and ***** to the new board. It's a better deal since the dealer new wants something like $600 for the board! crazy I know.

But the a/c isn't bad if the blower fan isn't working. Hope that helps ya.

Thanks for the replies. The problem fixed itself. I'm not sure what was causing the problem but it seemed to happen only when it got cold. Ever since the temperatures got out of the 30s/40s it's been fine.

As far as the 2007 issue with the lighting on the HVAC, I figured that out and posted up a fix for that a long while back. I do it for free along with an led swap on a 2007 and do it for about $10 if someone just wants the fix

I have known of a couple of boards that had issues with the fan control not working. Since I have pretty much mapped most of the circuit on the HVAC unit since 2004 I spent a while troubleshooting one. It seemed to come down to a driver module issue, but replacing the board (you can get a used HVAC for around $50 if you look around) ended up being the best fix.

First step is to see if the blower relay is good. If all that work, you need to start looking at the HVAC module itself.

As far as only not working in the cold and only not working on AC, then it has to be the HVAC module. If it were the blower control relay it would not blow air on heat either.

My car has developed this same problem. A/C works and gets cold. But sometimes the fan doesn't come on. If I drive down the road a bit, the fan will then come on and work. I am thinking it is a relay.
