Default problem with air flow and air vents

alright, i've noticed this since i bought my car and was hoping it would go away, but no such luck.

my air vents always have air blowing from them. it doesn't matter if the air circulation button is on or off, the whole system is on or off, or what mode i have selected. i always have air blowing from every vent. even with them closed, i can feel it with my hand up to it. in theory, shouldn't there be NO air coming from the vents if the system is off and there is no air being drawn in from outside (ie the air circulation button is lit up)? i've also positioned the vents away from my seat (towards the passenger side). i still feel it. any suggestions? anything i'm doing wrong? am i the only one? please help!

and so you know, this IS a big deal for me, even if it wouldn't bug anyone else. i have very dry eyes, and they are sensitive to any amount of air against them. i can deal with it somewhat during the day because i can wear sunglasses (though i still feel it from the sides), but at night and in bad weather i have to squint to attempt to protect my eyes.

so all the vents in the dash continue to blow no matter what you've selected? like floor, vent, defrost? then i'd say that the control telling the air door to direct the air isn't working.. definitely a dealer issue.. and call scion.. i think we all should the minute something happens..

Well i sorta have some similar issues. I assume it's normal, but if i open the sunroof at all the vents slightly turn on. My recirculation works fine though because if the sunroof is open but that light is lit the vents turn off. The only real problem i have is the driver's side vent next to the a-pillar won't stay in proper position if the air is on above like 2 or 3 bars. To clarify, the verical bar within that air vent is too loose or something that it won't stay pointed in one direction under higher air output. It turns shut almost on its own. I am going in tomorrow for my 5000 mile service though, so i'm gonna have them look at it.

yeah dealer needs to replace those vents.. when they are not staying open.. yeah the air pressure of opening the sunroof is sucking that other vent closed.. they can pop it out and put a new one in..

I have this too. I left it go because I guess I figured it was a system of balancing and regulating the temp in the car. When its warmer, I put it around mid level and down to one bar, so on and so forth. ppffttt....maybe I should ask my dealer about it

nothing is on. air comes from every vent. obviously when i turn it on the flow becomes stronger, but with everything off it's still detectable, and it's still enough to bother my eyes. i've tried everything. i guess it's dealer time.

Mine is always blowing air out of which ever mode it is set on when the fan is not turned on. It's driving me nuts. I figured it was by design (stupid design, but design anyway). I haven't looked in the manual yet about it. OFF MEANS OFF argh

so i'm not alone?

i almost had hoped i was, cuz that would likely mean something was wrong and they need to fix it. i'm glad someone else is annoyed by it tho...i feel dumb stressing about the little things sometimes. i'll check my manual this morning, but i dont' recall it saying anything about a slight constant air flow.

i had similar problem with my driver's side air vent... the only difference is it doesn't shut off, but moves sideways.... i went to the dealer when i got my 3k mile oil change and they said they ordered the replacement part... they should also replace yours...

What'd you find out? I have the same problem and so does a friend of mine. Did the dealer solve it for you?

Turning on the button that uses air from inside the car only should solve that problem.
