That shouldn't be a factor. The transponder should read when you put the key in the ignition. To check the range of your key, place it in the ignition ever so slowly untill your red light stops blinking. (the red light near the bottem of the center console with a picture of a car and a key in it).

When that stops your car sees your key as a 'valid' key. (And should know which key is actually in the ignition too )

Unless the battery on the car is significantly low, the car will have enough power to read the transponder when its all the way in the ignition.
