Pure pricing is for people who dont know what they are doing and dont want to "feel" like they are getting ripped off

if you are paying pure price right now your getting ripped off

i had toyote down 2,500 under invoice along with a trd short shift kit and the TRD air filter (this was for an X-runner)

car dealers are hurting, if your willing to pay full price your a dealers wet dream

even two years ago when i got my scion they hooked me up with a deal so depending on the dealer you can even get a deal on pure pricing

Finally, someone who agrees. Or should I say, is not a fan-boy and will admit that they may have either overpayed or that their brand may be over charging.

Imagine if we had pure pricing on houses. When the economy goes in the toilet, you could still sell your house for its "pure price," right?

Imagine if we had pure price on oil, food, gas, ect . . .

Paying full retail in this economy is a rip off.

if we had pure price on everything, it would be amazing.
everything would be much cheaper because there would be next to no profits being made
but then again, if that happened. business would be closing left and right.

i really do suggest you go to college and take a business and economics class because you dont seem to fully grasp the concept .

this makes no sense on so many levels lol

almost every company has its own pure pricing system

you dont go to walmart and haggle down a loaf of bread

you dont go to the gas station and haggle down the price of a gallon

pure pricing is everybody pays the same dude..... if you own or have owned a scion you should know that

i think you should take your own advice and head back to economics class to grasp what your saying

and whoever posted about scion making cars little at a time has not been to a toyota dealer in a while, theres like rows upon rows of unsold XB's and XD's

i now know of dealers offering 1000 over invoice on scions now!

pure pricing might work in a perfect economy where they dont care about making sales but as the thread states IN THIS ECONOMY yes, its a rip off

why would i pay full price of a scion when i can go to any other company including toyota and get mind blowing deals

its a bad time for all companies

So, Im stuck with the choice of upgrading my Tc, or getting something else. The Tc is just out of warranty. Ive got the Trd exhaust, trd drop in, fogs, spoiler, pedals, sills, bazooka sub, ect. Im debating whether I want to power up the motor or just get something else.

My complaint came up when the idea of just getting another Tc came up. I though, well, I should be able to get a great deal on a stock Tc and could turbo it. The dealer would not budge and offered me a bad trade for mine. My wife wants to part w/ her awd subaru impreza and was looking at an Xb, on which the dealer would also not budge.

So, we went across the street to the Honda dealership, who was offering good deals on the CRV and their civics. I could not help but get a little ____ed at Scion, because I love my car, and wanted to stay with Scion, but, I just think in this economy a "deal" is in order.

Hence my belief that Pure-Price needs to go. Because, a car like the Si, comes standard w/ pedals, spoiler, differential, 200hp, subwoofer, foglights, ect, that to similarly equip a Tc would cost more - the net result being that if you want almost any of those options, dont get a new Tc.
Thank you for posting this ^^ reply.... that makes a lot more sense as to why you were thinking of going Honda over Toyota/Scion. I totally understand... before I bought my latest 08 tC project and having an 06 tC.... I did look at the Civic Si before choosing to go with another tC....but I will preface that statement by saying that I did this just before our nations economy started taking its down turn.
The Civic Si is a nice ride...I will give it that....just at the time for the amount of modding I wanted to do...the tC was a better deal for me and I had driven the wheels off of my 06 tC with no mechanical problems what so ever....

SO WHY IS EVERYONE COMPLAINING ABOUT SCIONS PRICING!!!!
YOU DONT GO TO THE SCION DEALER TO HAGGLE DOWN THE PRICE!
SIMPLY BECAUSE...EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER KNOWS ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

$1000 over invoice is practically nothing when you think of all the expenses a dealership has...
compare that to other markets where mark ups are way higher, hell, quite a few market have a 50% market.
albeit, the products in that market may not be as expensive as cars but still...

i would agree pure pricing is a ripoff. bargaining people and making them slash the price down is the way of doing business. read some donald trump book he'll should explain why u always have to nogotiate the prices and tell u why doing it is a way of doing business. if not then u are losing money ur self because u can always get a better deal anywhere.

Trump, while successful, shouldn't exactly be the model for business success.

The Taj Mahal nearly went bankrupt in 1991, financed on junk bonds.

The Trump Plaza hotel filed for chapter 11 in 1992.

He had to sell his limo company, Trump Shuttle in 1994.

He was forced to reduce his share of Trump Hotel and Casino Resorts from 56% to 27% in 2004 in order to pay debt to shareholders.

And finally, Trump Entertainment Resorts had to file for bankruptcy protection in November 2008, with Donald Trump agreeing to resign from the board.

Seriously, he makes his money by scamming investors to build massive real estate projects, then beacause the business case is garbage and the property is unsustainable the stock price crashes and he surrenders the stock to reduce his personal debt.

Donald's rich but he isn't wealthy. He has a lot of money and a lot of assets but is also saddled with massive debt. He's going to be hurting when his loans are finally called in.

Doing what he does is not the way to do business. Just figure out what you want in a car and what you're willing to pay. If you think the tC is overpriced for your feature set, then by all means buy something else, but chances are if there's another car out there with similar or nearly identical features, it will be priced the same.

Like I said earlier, that Si that's cheaper is probably marked down below dealer cost. The dealer just wants to sell it because the longer it sits on his lot, the more money he loses, so at a point it's cheaper for him to sell it at a lower cost than to hold it on the lot and keep paying for it out of his pocket (the dealer needs to take a loan to get the car to the lot in the first place).

Since Scion doesn't send more cars until the dealer sells the ones they have, there isn't the financial incentive to get it off the lot, and therefore they don't lower the price. This makes Toyota a healthier company, the dealership more sustainable, and resale higher.

For the love of Scion, someone else with some economics education please chime in.

Well said

What sounds like a better business plan?

Dumping cars at below cost (short term solution) and severely hurting resale values (long term problem)?

or

Maintaining price but not selling as many cars (long term plan) and maintaining resale values (long term plan)?

Dealers are closing left and right and many of the ones that are open are panicking. They took on a lot of inventory thinking with the economy being good, they would sell cars easily. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and now they are stuck with the inventory. They don't really have a choice but to dump the cars and get whatever liquid funds they can to pay back loans.

While this keeps them in business for the time being, it hurts the resale value of the cars. Kind of a catch 22.

So Why Did You Noy Buy The Si?

If the deal was amazing then why did you NOT buy it????!!!

The Si is an amazing car, the CRV is a different bird altogether and not even in the same ballpark.

Man I just keep thinking when I read your posts-
You whinny little $h!t. You can't make up your mind and want some one to kiss your @$$ and either lose money or make no money so you FEEL BETTER!!!

And then, this is rich , and then when someone does pucker up like the Honda dealer, YOU STILL DON'T PULL THE FRICKIN TRIGGER!!!

Lets try that when you are out of law school. You work for a firm low that low ***** your billing hours because times are tough and they make you pay for all postage and courier charges. So you are almost starving.

And then I will go on Lawyer Billing dot com and whine about how much you, my lawyer, should be reducing your rates from $100/hr to $50 because it is a tough time in the economy and I want you and your firm to actually discount further and lose money because I called Johnny Cochrane from beyond the grave and he said instead of $500 an hour he will slash his fee in half to $250 and I want the same percentage discount.

The topper is then that instead of selling your current precious tC with mods on your own you complain about a trade number that is only a depreciation of $3500 per year. My gosh man it is noramlly closer to $7000 right now. If you think it is easy than go sell it on your own and deal with the same stupid fire sale mentality that you are having but from other people. Then it will be you posting "I can't get anyone to pay me what I feel the tC is worth."

Now there is an easy way to make selling and trading less stressful and value your time and budget better. It is called - wait for it................Pure Price!!!

Pure Price, the tell me what your rock bottom price is so I can base my decision on do I like your product/service for the fee you are asking, all based on my own personal value of it.
Simple, clean, and easy. A Yes or a No.

You already did it once. You proved its success. In fact, if you don't buy you prove its success again because you are tormenting us and still not buying something from some other manufacturer because of value.

The McDonald's Value Menu is the same idea. I like the product for the price charged and I have never negotiated with the drive thru guy/gal for a better deal on the McDouble or what ever I am getting. How do you think McDonalds is IMPROVING in the current economic times. Reasonable price for a reasonable product that has value to the consumer. Ding Ding we have a winner.

I didnt get the Si because I have not made up my mind yet. 23k miles and not a single problem on the Tc. I owe another $3500 on it and Im debating whether to pay it off and be without a car payment for a while or get into something new and have a warranty.

I just dont think that its worth trying to get any real power out of the Tc that also has to be my daily driver. Its a little slow for my taste and I do want a little more power. I also dig the 6 speed trans. I drove the Tc from Montana to Oklahoma and reving the motor well over 3500rpms to keep it around 80 is a little scary. The car really just needs another cog to keep the ride smooth.

Im going to test drive a new 370z and probably the genesis coupe before making up my mind; although I dont know if I want to go the $30k car route. As the Si seems like a great ride for a little over $21k. Plus it would be nice to have about $2500 to drop right away on an exhaust and some wheels or something.

I also may look at some 4 doors, like the WRX.

I still think that pure price is just a pre-text or an out for the dealer to refuse to negotiate at all on these cars and will probably be taking my business somewhere where you can negotiate, as that is what is typically done with cars.

When I bought the Tc after lengthy research the pure price seemed to me like a great deal comparatively, but it has gone up in base price since then and the competition has slashed prices changing my opinion that it is such a great deal.

Either way - I picked up Killzone 2 for the PS3 the other day; thus my attention when not in class is far away from car troubles.

If you think pure price is a great deal then go for it. I dont care. I just think that you are over-paying.

^^ well if you decide you want to keep the tC.... there are a number of companies that will do an extended warranty for you if that gives you more piece of mind.

ok. so i have looked at the tc since like back in 2005 and like watch this site everyday but i really wanted to comment on this so finally made an account. i used to be a tc "fanboy" until a while ago. if you look at it, i think the tc is absolutely overprices considering the current economy. and to yellowhoodie...i realize u dont go to walmart and haggle a loaf of bread...BUT U R SUPP TO HAGGLE ON A CAR. if you dont ur simply retarded. so sure go buy the car cause you like the thing. but you are absolutely a moron if you buy it because you think you are getting the best bang for the buck. so fanboys go ahead and buy the car. but realize u are absolutely not getting the best deal possible. i am a toyota fan and always will be. but in my mind pure price is only meant for women that were never meant to haggle...give me a man's price!

I agree with him, except that I think that women are quite apt hagglers. Hell, I think that they can be quite persuasive.

Enjoy working hard to pay for the car that you overpaid for.

Even toyota has come out recently and stated that they as a brand in total are getting too expensive.

Its a 2 door Corolla folks. Give me a break.
