Default Question: Getting windows tinted tomorrow FM 07 tC

I just want some opinions on what you guys think. I'm getting my windows tinted tomorrow and I'm debating on what to get. I want to go legal because st. louis cops are asses about window tinting. On the driver side and passanger side I'm getting 35%. I'm not too sure what I want to get on the back windows though. I'm thinking either 5% or 20% on the back windows and hatch. I'm also getting a strip across the top of my windshield. Thanks for your opinions!

just keep in mind that you have to use reverse every once and a while, so the darker you tint your rear window, the harder it is to see out of it. having said that, i have 20% all around, and it isn't too much of a problem.

if you want to play it safe go with 35% all around.

yea get either 20 or 35% all around, when u have lighter in the front and darker in the rear i think it looks a lil tacky.

x2 pick the percent, and get it for all the windows, IMO

I have 5% all around, I love them, but it is harder to drive like drax said

Hey I am in STL too and well haven't gotten mine tinted yet but I was going to do 30% all the way around or 30% in the front and 30% in the back so that it is a little darker the the limit of 35% but probably couldn't be noticed on the front windows. Where are you getting it done?

Have fun always being paranoid about cops. I used to have 18% all around (including the windshield) and the LAPD were always giving me a hard time. The only way to go anywhere without being hassled by the po-po was to drive with the windows down, which sucks in the winter. I eventually caved and went with 50% up front after my last tint ticket. I don't feel so much like a pimp anymore, but I feel much much better when cops drive past and they don't pull me over.

Here's what I used to have...

if you get 20% it looks grreat and you cannot see inside... if thats what your loooking for, mixing different percentages of tint doesnt exactly look great.

I'm in STL and the guy that did it for me does it out of his garage but all the scion guys around here go to him. He's over in St Charles out 94 around Harvester. He did my hatch, all windows and a windshield strip for I believe around $180-190 and had it done in about an hour and half while I waited/chatted with him. I went 20% all around, but I have Illinois plates and live/work in Missouri. I'll try to find his card and I'll post up here the name of his "company".

:EDIT:

His name is Jim and his "company" is called Auto Tint. He actually did all my tint for $150!! I've had mine tinted for almost 2 years with no problems and I don't know a single person that has had any problems with his work. You can find his number if you google it, or you can PM me, but I don't wanna just post his phone number.

haha Thats the same with me, I drive with the windows down, except at nights, and during the winter, if its really cold, I put them half way up, and open the sunshade to get as much light in as possible

So far, so good :knock on wood:

Yeah, I used to keep the shades open too in order to make it seem lighter. Dude, I was having a good run for a couple of months where I didn't get pulled over at all, but then I had one week where I got pulled over 4 times, and twice on the same day!! That was the last straw. I was always checking for cops like I was a fugitive or something.

Id say its a waste of money. Drop your car instead, or get something else (rear sway, or front strut, or fog lights).. I have almost a form of every mod out (that ive wanted) and havent even thought of tints.. I did it in my porsche, and driving at night sucked, backing up sucked.. and I can 95% of the time pick out what vehicle is behind me at night (usually by the type of headlights, how high the vehicle is ect ect) and you can pretty much kiss that goodbye.
Anyways thats my .02 cents.. get something that DOES something

Well there is functionality here too. It keeps the car cool in the summer, gives you privacy inside your car, and cuts down on glare from oncoming cars (if you tint the windshield, which I did on both my tC and my Echo). I feel like 50% still helps with the heat and glare, so it's better than nothing.

You went from a Porsche to a tC??? Shouldn't it be the other way around

Anyway, I think tint improves the look on a car. A nice dark tint on a silver or white car really sets it off in my opinion. Even with darker colored cars it still looks badass.

Shake, if you wanna tint it, go for it. As far as your question and wanting opinions.....just browse through the thread dedicated to your color car and compare them. I believe Missour law is 35% on the fronts and as dark as you want on the back. The tint is going to look darker than it is if you are looking at it from the outside because if you are looking into the car from above it, the interior is a dark background and there is no light behind it compared to looking "through" the car which is a lighter background.....if that makes sense.
