Question, Key getting hot
#2
I have not noticed any heat, I can check on the ride home from work. That will give it a half hour to heat up.
Is it hot to the touch, or a little warm. (burn your hand, to hot to hold)?
It should not be getting burning hot to the touch. do you have any added on electronics, dealer or after market like the under dash lights. It could be bad wiring.

I never really touch the metal part of my key to see if it warm or not. You might want to get that checked, something might be getting to hot and you could have a problem like the guy who posted his dash where it was melted.

after 5 today i spent 20 min on the road
i was touching the key/and the metal where the hole is and it was hot. so something was heating it up.
like one of my earlier theories since my car sat in the sun today it probably heated it up
but after a drive today 20 min after 7 and my car was in the shade. it was just warm

Ok, so I checked it last night and this morning, and the key is not cold, its the same temp as my metal scion key chain.
Had the key in my pocket for about 15 min and it feels warmer to the touch than it did pulling it out of the ignition.
So if yours is really that warm, I would take it to the dealer to have it checked out.
The Temp here in STL is about 65-75 when I did the test.
