Default Rediculous wheel hop? Future solutions?

Ok. I plan on racing the tC quite a bit. I am sponsored so I have all of the performance parts pretty much covered, but wheel hop is getting to be a pain. When I hop in 1st or second, the engine shakes so bad it sounds like a metal pipe slamming into my firewall. Anyone else have these problems?

I am looking to get some urethane motor mounts. Any one know any places where I can have some custom ones made, or if someone makes them yet?

I know a lot about cars, but for fabwork, I'm limited to guys that work with Hondas. I'm new to the Toyota thing..

Thanks for your help.

lets say your cruising at 5mph in first, then you floor it. the tires break traction but dont spin, so the engine flex causes a brief loss of power, resulting in new traction. the car then gets a little more power again, breaks traction, then hops again. the wheels literally slam forward and back, it sucks.

i bent the control arm on my turbo civic when i had the drag radials before i fixed the issue. i dont want to run into the same problems with this and have to fix it all over again.

I have deffinetly noticed the wheel hop ecspecially in 1st and 2nnd gear. At first I thought i had broken something the slamming was so loud. I dont like this to much either I just guess I cant slam it through the gears like I can my S2000 I am going to take it alittle easier.

haha i havent floord it yet so i dont know of the wheelhop issue. i jus broke 500 miles today so maybe some time soon ill take it out and see what you're all talkn about.

edit: didnt floor it, but had it to where i could feel it pull nicely.. couldnt get it to hop tho.. ill try flooring it next time i decide to mash on it.

if you're having wheel hop.. my guess is that you're still using the stock tires.. the RE92's.. get a stickier tire like the pzero nero - pirelli.. and that won't happen.. no matter how i've gotten on my tC the pzero's won't hop!!

its real nice once you hit the 1000 mile mark and can start having real fun with the car

You are correct on that guess. Stickier tires will help the situation for the time being and for a stock motor, but I plan oon building up the engine nicely in the spring, and when I make much more power, the hop will be even more severe if the increased traction breaks free, that's what happened to my civic haha...

But yeah, anyone know a place where i can get custom urethane mounts? I'll just buy stock motor mounts online, then send them to the fab shop...

I thought I was going to be able to break in our car......wrong.
Turned 400miles last night and Ive taken it to redline a couple........hundred times.

I just love the torque, sorry CiCi the tC (mom named it)

Wheel hop can be reduced but I dont think you will get rid of it. Motor mounts will help, also if its at the track then lower tire pressure should help also.

Also wheel hop can be reduced by the driver. When I first got my car I had mad wheel hope. Once I learned my car and got better at 5speed I dont have wheel hop. Of course every now and then I get it when I get launch happy.

a little less throttle? not too sure, but even with a turbo, don't honda's make less torque down low? maybe you just need a different driving character? maybe a limited slip would help a little too...just need someone to make one.

if u want to make ur motor mounts into solid mounts u can take them and fill them with 3m window weld. Makes them solid but not like rocks. I did this when i did my motor swap into my Sentra. helps a lot and is cheap. Also see if someone like energy suspension has plans on making a bushing kit for the Tc. Also one question is the car lowered and wheel hopping or at a stock ride height?

I noticed a lot of people were complaining and I never really had a problem untill we got like 20 feet of rain the past week!!! Well not that much, but every time I took off, I was spinning- even when I wasn't trying to shift fast.

Solution= new tires lol

That's awesome. How do you like the intake? I had their prototype. I plan on buying their headers when they come out- I think in 45 days or so.

Oh I am looking into something like this:

"Delrin and self-lubricating Bronze are used in the main-body bushing, replacing the squishy stock unit for better control of your camber, caster, toe, and arc movements"

Yes thats true. Hondas dont make torque at all down low (depending on motor)

I have noticed that Hondas have horrible wheel hop at the track. Most of the time its because there lowered on coil-overs and stock struts. Not a good combo but it will last you years with Hondas.

I think its mainly because Honda owners have launch their cars at pretty high rpms to get the car off the line quick. Higher rpms would result is some wheel spin and then wheel hop.

You're correct. I lauched my turbo civic at about 3800 rpms in a fwd car with DRs and open diff. I had a full repalcement suspension though, springs, shocks, bars, etc...

I'll look into some dampening ideas as well.
