Default Redlined the tc quite a few times

I while I was at the track I problems getting in second gear and redlined the car a lot of times, my question is, at 6k on the motor will it be damaged? It seemed after 6100 rpms second gear just wouldn't get in like it was suppose too, alot of people told me I messed up the syncro's but in goes into gear fine during routine driving.

eh, missing gears isn't that big of a deal unless you grind the hell of out them. Redlining it for a second or two isn't bad either, that's what the rev limiter is for anyways.

don't worry about it :D

I thought the HP peaked around 6000rpm. That means that from that point up to the redline, you will have slightly less power than at 6k. That could be the why you aren't getting as much power that high.

Or you could just shift on time.

ya... if your doing track stuff, you don't really have to worry about turning and crap; just look down at the tach when you hear the engine getting intot he upper rpm's and shift.

Depends...how do you know he's not on a road course?

When I was on a road course in my tC I hit the rev limiter quite a few times b/c i couldn't hear the engine through my helmet! The car is way too quiet for this kinda stuff...[/quote]

did you just hit the redline, or were you bouncing off the redline??
either way, dont do it too often, you will damage your motor

The redline is the safety point for us drivers. The motor can actually handle higher RPM's, but they fool proof it for those who don't watch the line.

its not fool proof if you continuously bounce off the line

why not? isn't that the point of the rev limiter? it keeps the engine from over-revving (by cutting off the fuel or ignition, etc.) , thus preventing the driver from damaging the engine due over-revving. Of course, this doesn't apply if you mis-shift!

hitting
and bouncing off it
are different things
yes, the limiter is there to prevent damage, but if your dumb enough to bounce it
you CAN, not guaranteed, but can cause damage
ive seen it on a few toyotas and 1 tC (car also misshifted about 20times)

Our motors redline at 6250rpm. Between 6000-6250rpm theres tenths of a second time spent going that extra 250rpm, meaning it may be more efficient to shift at 6000rpm but lingering around for a extra 250rpm isnt going to be noticed. "besides hittting the rev limiter like he did" Which like someone else stated it's there so you don't over-rev and do damage. It's not going to hurt his car, only his ET's.

But grinding gears = , just don't let it happen a lot.

I think a short shifter might fix this problem

In response to the original post:
I felt that when I was at the track, I wanted to slam it into the next gear--consequently it felt harder to put it into gear. I've found the best results by shifting quickly, but also smoothly--I think your gearbox will also appreciate it too...

maybe someone here w/ a more track experience would like to chime in...

I dunno if a short shifter would fix the problem. Yes, it'll make your throws shorter, but I think if you're still trying to slam it into the next gear then a short shifter wouldn't help for that particlular problem (I think).
