Default Reverse light problem

Has anyone else had problems with their reverse lights not working, or only working sometimes? I realized that the reverse cam wasn't switching over and since i tapped the left reverse light at the tail light i figured that my reverse lights weren't working, backed up to a wall and checked and nothing, then i played with the stick a little(i have a manual transmission) and was able to get it to work every once and a while. I took it to toyota and i am beyond the warranty on that part and they want $100 just to look at it so i want to try to fix it myself, i jacked the car and looked around and couldn't find the switch on the transmission.

Does anyone know where the switch is, or better yet have pics of its location, or at least a good description of how to find it?

Thanks,
Andrew

Or wires? Sounds like something might have come loose.

Wouldn't work at all if the fuse was blown, but yes i did think of that

Thats what i'm thinking, maybe the switch is loose in the socket or the connector to it is?

your camera may be creating a draw and causing it to not light the reverse bulb. I would suggest tapping the reverse cam wire @ the fuse box. I did it in my car, I found the wire color on the forums here. If you cant find it PM me and ill look in my car for you.

thats a very good starting point! and your backup lights are both on one fuse, so its strange that only one doesnt work. Im going to say 95% chance that its caused by the cam.

no both of them do not work, that's why i don't think its a power draw issue, i'm 95% sure its a problem with the switch

Sorry, misread it. I would disconnect your reverse cam and take it to a local alarm / stereo shop, they would probobly know more about it than the dealer. I would also check to see if the fuse recieves power when switching into reverse.

^^No, it's under the faux panel where the fog lights button, Scion Security blinking LED, etc. is.

the sensor on the transmission is on the very top of the tranny, a 1"1/16 socket will remove it.
