Ok I was thinking on taking my tc on a road trip from LA to St. louis Mo. but due to timing one way of the trip may be nonstop. Well do you guys think the Tc can handle almost 24 hours nonstop with out over heating or breaking down?? what is the longest time you guys have drove your tc??

 

I drove 400 miles (LA to SF) averaging speeds over 100 MPH at many times... Temperatures were in excess of 100 degrees, and with some light traffic leaving LA, I made the trip in about four hours and forty five minutes...

I think your road trip will be fine... Just make sure to do the usual checks; tires, coolany, belts, oil, leaks, fluids, etc.

I also highly recommend popping the hood during stops. The fans turn off when the car is stopped, and there is no moving air to cool the motor. And guess what? The motor is still VERY hot. I do it as a precaution.

 

Don't european cars such as audi and other expensive brands have their fans after the car is off if the car is hot?

 

The first week of Aug im drving from NJ to FL, also a 24 hour ride, with my brother and girlfriend. im gonna get an oil change, clean my air filter, make sure all my fluids are filled, all my tires are filled, and im actually getting a Scangauge before so that will help alittle especially with MPG.

 

like eliXion said, just makes sure all your fluids are where they should be and you have fresh oil and you'll be good to go

 

ive heard its a good idea to give the engine a rest every 9 hours or so.. mabey enough for it to cool down past 1/4

 

i drove from Olympia washington to boise idaho i think it is like 6-8 hour drive did really good no over heating nothing took like two gas breaks let it rest and me and my gf relax for a few and nothing good trip and all it was like in the 90's at times. should have no problems going to be taken another trip to idaho for a car show this friday the 13th.

 

Actually, even some Japanese cars have this... But not all cars, German or not have fans that run when the motor is off.

I've driven my car from south texas to illinois its about 21-22 hours driving time, its approx about 1450 miles (average) and did it about twice already, you should be good, your car temp gauge will remain in the middle (like regular driving) if your car is working fine.. And on gas stops and lunch breaks could buy you some time to make your car rest... And yea the last one was pretty tough, no stops longer tha 15 mins... Just make sure you check everything you need to check..

 

Yeah I'm thinking to get an oil change before leaving and I still have the three free one from scion. I also was thinking in buying the end face mask so I won;t damage the paint on the road. Thanks everybody for your input now I feel more safe. so the tc fan still on after the car is turn off??

 

Nope... All fans completely turn off... It's a smaller point, and it's probably not even necessary to pop the hood. But like I said, I run my car VERY hard, so I make sure that the engine doesn't bake when it's off.

 

That'd be a cool feature to have the fan still cool the engine while the car is turned off. A friend of mine has a 95' Prelude that does that.

 

yea but when the motor is off, the waterpump isnt doing anything, so you are basically just blowing air on the block.. doesnt really do that much....

 

I drove almost 6 thousand miles in 11 days with my tC.

I drove from Massachusetts to central Florida non-stop($87 worth of gas and some food)
I did a lot of driving for the next 5 days in Florida, then I left Florida, drove to Pigeon Forge, TN... up in the Mountains, drove around there for another 4 days then drove back to Boston...

The car handled it like a champ... and I was averaging around 95-100mph the majority of the long-distance trip...

I will admit I got an oil change in Florida, but that was after 3500miles in just a few days, and 1500 non-stop

 

Which is why popping the hood is a good idea regardless. I picked up the trick in Thailand, where it is hot every day of the year. We would do 200kmh+ trips in our 328, and the car needed the cooling. If you check engine temps before and after the stop without popping the hood, you'll notice that temps actually increase by quite a bit. The key is to ventilate air so that the engine bay doesn't litterally bake.

 

I just finished a road trip across Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California.

Average daily temperature was ~90's, hottest was 102.
Scangauge never set the water temperature over 200 degs F.

I drove 11hrs on day 1, 6 hrs on day 2 and 3, stopping only for gas and restroom.
Average trip speed was ~90's mph.

I ran the car pretty hard/fast the first day too...
