well ive noticed that on the highway and stuff, im at 3k rpms going 65, and wen i go about 70 which is my average im at about 3.2, im kinda worried about this, why couldnt toyota put a 6th in this car? i was riding in my friends 01 accord coupe yesterday, and for him to get up to 3.2 rpms, he was doing 83-85, kinda ticks me off anybody else got something to say aobut this?

Yeah, but off the line, the tC is pretty damn fast because of the agressive gearing. If you cruise around at 70 and you're at 3200, that's really not a big deal for anything except gas mileage. I'm big on good mileage and I can't get that worked up about it.

We'd all like a 6th gear, but I don't know how many of us would put down too much more money for one.

HAH pretty much anything is better gas than what i WAS driving, 12 mpg < 25+ mpg so this is great for me but I agree it does feel kinda odd goin 80 at almost 3.5

I think that accord prolly has overdrive? My '04 Camry had it and would do about 2.7k at 70mph--wouldn't even break a sweat in the 80's.

Actually I think tC's rpm on highway is not as bad as everyone thinks.

If I remember correctly... My old 1998 Acura Integra rpm at 4000 at 80 mph... My old 1988 Acura Integra also rpm at 4000 at 80mph.

80mph * 4th gear = 3000 rpm on a level surface in an auto. i have 20+ hrs of driving at 70+ mph this past weekend to confirm this...

Right - I think people are reacting to the fact that you can hear the engine and see the tach more than any real problem with the mileage. It's ok with me. Remember - if you really want to do something about it, you could always get tires that are plus one sized... your speedo will be off, but since the tires are bigger, each revolution moves you further, therefore, you're essentially changing the gearing.

Don't like the gearing - get a different car

With about 20/80 city/highway I got 31mpg last tank. Not typical, but not impossible either. And yes, I did shift close to redline at multiple occasions when getting on the freeway.
