Tell your bud to check out the technical advisory for tc's if his rattle gets worse. I know you'll have fun with your TC! It's a great little mover and I have 3 other cars I drive (05 T-Bird & an 04 lexus LS430. The TC's the most fun...

Thanks for the replies.

Just a reminder: I can't provide results for the tC unless owners sign up and participate in the brief surveys. So far I'm only collecting data on the 2005. Other years are about halfway to the minimum.

Still collecting data on only the 2006. With the 2005 and 2007, about half way to the minimum needed to get started.

Next update in February. I hope to include the 2006, but that will depend on how many people respond.

16 responses so far for the 2006. This is enough for an asterisked result, but need 25 to remove the asterisk.

If you signed up but haven't responded to the survey (just an approximate odometer reading for most people), please do so. If you haven't signed up, please consider it.

16 is where it stayed, so the result will be asterisked when it's released in a week or so.

I'd like to get rid of it next time, in May. Just need more people

I have no problem here, for 2007 tC CS with 25567 miles, but i did hit a cat. No problem just the bottom part of the grill just got pop in. I just pop it back out. I bought it in Dec 13 2006.

It is non-rattle tC.

i find the term "reliability" to be vague.

because my car (engine) has been great, very reliable. never broke down. always runs. but the car itself has had many issues, both cosmetic and mechanical (tranny)....so i have a LOT of difficult calling it "reliable" since the car's been in the shop a total of 50 days EASILY in the 3 years i've had it.

Very few cars that are fairly new have major mechanical problems. These days, unless you want to say "they're all good" or treat small differences as if they were much larger, it's necessary to define reliability as anything beyond routine maintenance that requires a trip to the repair shop. Which is what I've been doing.

I picked up mine with 50K certified. I haven't had any engine issues, other than the auto tranny and I don't see the same way sometimes.
Cosmetics... Well, it gets bent pretty easily, but other than that it's not bad.

My only complaint since it's been down to -30 here my rear suspension creaks quite loudly. Once we get back up to 0 it stops though.

'07 scion tc 5-speed 13k miles bought in august of '07 new....the HVAC lighting goes out when the lights are turned on. Other than that, no problems really besides rattles.

Just the usual reminder: I'm sure many people find these responses helpful, but I can include include information submitted through the survey process in the analysis.

Current counts:

2005: 18 (not far off)
2006: 28 (just over the minimum - more still needed)
2007: 14
2008: 7

Need at least 25 to be included in the survey.

my 05 tc with 35,000 miles= Rattle trap...and squeak trap. Basically an annoying noise nuisance trap.

still looks and performs way better than my protege, but come one, a toyota quality product should not be a rattle trap. Toyota is supposed to be above par, not at or below it.

stop comparing the tc to other cars. I DON'T CARE ABOUT OTHER CARS. I care about my tc, and why it rattles so much.
If you don't care about other cars, why do you mention all these other cars PLUS mention that the only car that rattles when new is the tC? Let's go down my list of cars which I've experienced

2008 tC - no rattles
2008 auto tC - no rattles
2005 tC - hatch rattle, fixed under warranty
2004 Jeep - rattles everywhere
2004 Jetta - rattles in all 4 doors and dash
2006 Evo MR - minor rattles
2003 Dodge Dakota - rattles all over
1999 Dodge Ram 3500 - rofl.
2003 BMW 325i - No rattles over 3 years
2003 Ford Focus - Rofl.
1997 Honda Accord - Minimal rattles
1986 Dodge Ram D50 - lmfao
2003 Suzuki Z400 - can't hear the rattles, so no rattles
2005 Mazda 6 - rattles in doors, roof, dash x2(sister used to own one and a friend owns one)

I call total BS on your list of rattle free vehicles.
