We've updated our reliability stats for the tC to include owner experiences through September 30, 2013.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2006 tC: 30, low, very small sample size
2005 tC: 32, low, small sample size

We'll have further updates in February and in May. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

2007 - 152k miles, automatic

Just recently purchased. Im the 3rd owner

Runs great, does not burn oil as far as I can tell, no leaks, shifts great. It has piston slap/wrist pin-like noise on cylinder 4, which I wont worry about for now since its not affecting driveability. Will buy a used engine when the time comes to replace this one. Was not my first choice when I was car shopping, but I do like it more than I thought I would

But I was surprised to read about so many complaints and issues regarding the 2AZ engine

You shouldn't base too much on the number of complaints you find on forums. An active forum can have thousands of members. So if even one percent of them have a particular problem it can seem as if a large percentage of people are having it.

I have updated mine online.

Been a great car. 125,000 miles, still on stock clutch, 8 seasons of autocross (aka, over 600 autocross runs in it approaching and hitting the rev limiter often during those runs). Hatch struts were replaced under warranty in the first couple of years. I have replaced one front wheel bearing. The rest has been normal maintenance (brakes, tires, oil, etc). Retired it from Autox about a month ago after purchasing a different car for that. Still drive it almost every day. Interior is still nice, runs like a champ, burns about 1qt of oil between oil changes. Solid vehicle!

We've updated our reliability stats for the tC to include owner experiences through June 30, 2014 (making them about 14 months ahead of some others).

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2006 tC: 36, low, very small sample size
2005 tC: 33, low, very small sample size

Next updates in November and in February. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be. (I'd love to drop those sample size disclaimers.)

Thanks, guys. In case it's not clear, the stats can only include cars that are in the survey. So if they're not already in there I hope you'll join.

We've updated our reliability stats for the tC to include owner experiences through September 30, 2014.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2006 tC: 26, low, very small sample size
2005 tC: 86, moderate, very small sample size

Additional participants would be very helpful--running short of these as more members have been selling than buying them.

How old is that Subaru? Based on our data, their reputation for reliability is mostly based on the first 100k miles.

We've updated our reliability stats for the tC to include owner experiences through the end of 2014. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2006 tC: 46, low, small sample size
2005 tC: 98, high, very small sample size

We'll have further updates in May and in August. Additional participants very much needed.

So, how have these cars been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the tC now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

2007 tC: 57, moderate, very small sample size
2006 tC: 46, low, very small sample size
2005 tC: 87, moderate, very small sample size

No stat for a model year? Then we very much need more participants for it. Same for those with small sample size notes--meaning all of them Next updates in August and November.

Mine's been a dream. 2006 original owner with 113k miles. No repair work beyond maintenance. Only thing that broke was the glove box damper that I fixed with some screws. Unbelievable reliability with this thing. Maybe half a quart added between oil changes, and I run longer than most, 6k+.
