Default Scion tC's with 2 Catalytic Converters?

Why does the car have 2 Catalytic Converters, one in the Exhaust manifold and one underneath the car?

Does anybody know?

A lot of new cars are coming with 2. Maybe to create less pollution

Yea, but its a pain in the ___ when you get the sulfur smell, there's a TSB for the 05 models with sulfur/egg smell coming from the cat, due to excessive acceleration and/or stop and go driving,

Already replaced one... =\

YAY! I prat to all that is holy my cat goes out. In California you can not replace your catalytic converter unless it malfunctions or is damaged. So if mine goes kaput.. I can replace it with a CARB legal High flow Cat :D

They did that for 2 reasons. 1st California emissions. 2nd to create a ULEV vehicle. Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle.

Making the tC a ULEV vehicle hurt the aftermarket for this car in Califorina btw. The RSX-S and now the Civic SI are not ULEV Vehicles.
