Default Shifting AT for gas mileage

Now lets get this out of the way first, Im not talking about manually shifting an auto! And this topic is not about drag racing an auto so no flames please! This topic is about fuel economy.

If you've ever driven an auto before, you know that you can pretty much determine at what rpm the tran shifts by how much gas you give or rather how much you depress the gas pedal. I've been trying to figure out at what rpm to let the tran shift in order to get the best gas mileage. I read that part of the reason the tC's mileage is low is because it has short gear ratios. Does this mean I should let it rev high, which means drive like I normally would, or try to let the tran shift at lower rpms?

i try to shift at 2k RPMs, and i get around 25mpg in the city.
Occasionally ill go above, but somewhere around 2k seems to be decent.

I would say try to keep it under 3k RPMs for best results.

Rule of thumb is "the less gas you give it, and the earlier it shifts, the better your milage will be" for any particular car. The tC could be weird somehow, but I doubt it.

You know, youd stall out alot of less-torquey cars doing that no problem =P

shifting at 2000, which puts you at what, 1000 rpm in the next gear? I guess im kinda pampered by the tC's ability to hold low revs. I was driving a WRX the other day and realized I was lugging it pretty bad in second where the tc wouldnt do this.
