SI VS TC?

The tc's single alluring perk across the board is sheer affordability. That's why most people buy them. You just can't beat all you get for the money.
The engine is large, but not a very potent I-4, and the weight and handling characteristics are substandard compared to Si's and the like.

But in the end, here's the thing: $3k, $5k....it doesn't matter. The Si is a pre-modded car for all intents and purposes. The tC is designed to have a solid base, to let everyone customize theirs as they see fit.
Also, all your lovely base HP is for nothing if you don't have it off the line. A basic car fact website lists the tC at 163 ft-lbs of torque, where as the Si is listed at 139. So, even pre-modded, it would certainly appear they can compete, since we all know a 1/4 mile isn't a distance race, it's a short burst.
So, if you gave the tC all the nifty internal upgrades you liked, and brought it up to the starting price of the Si, which you clearly said already had most of those upgraded those things, the tC would win.
Can you boost the Si and make it faster? Probably, but then you're changing leagues again. The Si and the tC aren't meant to compete, really. The Si is, again, the pre-modded version of the Civic. Where as the tC is a car that comes with one trim level and YOU pick what you want in it. If the Si came the same way, it would start out as an EX model and you'd have to add the rest in yourself.
They are both kick-@$$ cars that suit different people's needs in different ways.

$21,945

$17,020
$21,945 SI
-$17,020 tC
-------------
$4,925 Price difference.
The tC has no negotiation pricing. Dealers do NOT mark them up a dime. Honda dealers mark up Civic SIs left and right. The other day I was at Keyes Honda in Van Nuys and they had a black SI sedan with a $4,000 mark up. You don't believe me... here's their phone number: 800-634-7185
Just making sure you know that it's about a $5,000 more than a tC, not $3,000.
I was actually looking at both about a year ago.....i personally liked the tC a lot better but they were both really nice....... i don't think you could go wrong with either one. The only thing with the si's is that they are like _______s, everybody has one (or at least it's like that around here)
A fair dollar per dollar comparison would be:
Scion tC vs Civic LX

$17,020

$17,395
The tC is $375 cheaper and has the following advantage:
More power & torque
17in alloys while the Civic gets 16in steelies
Glass moonroof
Standard iPod interface
Honda just has nothing that compares to the tC.

I like the Si a lot. I don't like it to the point where I would trade my tC in for it, but if the Si had been available when I got my tC (September 2005) I would have definitely bought it instead.
In a nutshell, it just "drives" better.

The gouging seems to have stopped, but then I haven't exactly been shopping for a civic lately.
I got mine for 200 below MSRP. Hm. I guess i wasnt the idiot paying 5k over sticker. I aslo got a pretty good deal on the trade in for the tC as well. in the end, i made out. I had nearly paid off my car, and used all of the trade in towards the purchase of the si.

I will take that back if you will scan and post your sales contract (you can blurr our your personal info, just leave the numbers and the dealer info).
Do it and I will bow down and call you the king of deal making.
Until then, I leave you with 2 letters... BS.
$200 below msrp?
tC after tax: $17,020 + 6% (FL tax) = $18,040
SI after tax: $21,945 - $200 (your discount) = $21,745 + 6% (FL tax) = $23,050
Difference = $5,010
Sorry amigo, but your $3,000 claim is laughable. You still paid $5,000 more.
