Default So... lets say my automatic transmission fails...

... and I still have the waranty, can I request that it be replaced with a 5-spd? I'd assume it'd be even cheaper for the dealer to get, just might take a little bit more labor (adding clutch pedal, removing dipstick, etc etc...)

this is just a "what if" post...

what do you think?

thanks!

If you were to ask, I'm fairly confident they'd laugh you right out of the service department. No freakin' way, dude!

Just trade the car in while it has low miles and buy a manual... Just do it and get it over with, if you dont want an auto... plain and simple.

I will tell you what will happen if your AT fails:

You'll realize that the only proper transmission for a car is a proper manual!

eh... manual trans has much more problems than auto... autos can last for 100's of k's of miles... manuals need new clutches etc etc

maybe but when that auto fails... it will burn 2-3k in your pocket... easy.

i have an auto as well but my car will be long sold before i go over 75k or 7 years.

the most you'll get for you car even if you paid like 23k is about 15k on the spot. Than the dealer will resell your car with like 20k miles on it already for 21K which is more than a freakin brand new tC with zero miles on it!

id say just don't think about things like that or else it might just happen . =X *haha yeah im tryin to build my posts now*

If you can screw up an automatic transmission, what do you think you would do to a manual. If anyone is taking bets...put my money on the synchros lasting a week.

manuals rock tho! and the original clutch can last the life of the car if you know how to drive...besides if your plannnig to add performance mods youre better off with a manual...youre just losing all that power you paid for in an automatic...

I think someone gave you bad information (as there is a lot out there, since a lot of people don't drive manuals). Clutches, if driven properly (heck, even if abused a little bit), should easily last for more than 100,000. The transmission? Well, I think it could probably last just about forever before the physical structure of the car falls apart.

So after maybe 8-10 years, you have to spend maybe $250 at most for parts. What happens after (or even before) 100k-200k on an auto? Problems, failure, etc etc. And then add on $2-$3k to rebuild or replace.
