My tC's in the shop (body shop ) and I'm wondering if anyone might be so kind and give me the dimensions of the glovebox when it's open. Mostly interested in the height. A pic would be awesome as well. I know it's a weird request, but I'm looking into a carputer type project and not having my car is driving me crazy.

there was a post online for the tC where he removed the glove box and was going to put a car-puter behind it, and needed to know if he could cut off tabs on this big plastic thing that turned out to be factory connectors to hook up the factory alarm system - un-needed so he hacked them off and said it would look great and fit perfect for a car-puter and you don't even know it's there because it's behind the glove box - try and do a search for it, or maybe a mod can chime in on the post I'm talking about - but taking up the space of your glove box for a car-computer just doesn't sound like the best option

I'm thinkin of actually puttin the lcd and maybe a dvd drive in there... not the actual computer itself. Thanks for the legwork though!

So thats a total of about 4 tCs that i've seen in the area now, Counting myself.

 

Hey... I did the carputer thing... Im tweaking it up, I will keep you all posted, but basically, here are a few things I suggest... DO NOT purchase a regular flip out head unit screen... they come out all blurry with the computer connected to it. Also, DO NOT purchase a power inverter that has an ON OFF switch, get one that is "automatically on" when you plug it in. Also, make sure the VGA screen you get for your caputer is a 7 inch one, which you can easily retro into your headunit space... and make sure its a touchscreen, having a mouse is NO fun... also, you'll need an amplifier to power the speakers. I think thats it for now, I'll post soon enough, I promise... and oh yeah, I did hack away at those hvac pieces, worked like a charm

 

cool -- what lcd did you wind up using? Lilliput? I know I read on mp3car.com that there's some minor fabrication needed to fit in the existing double din radio spot. How easy/hard was that?
