I’m so tired of hearing about Scions given away as B’day gifts. Does anyone out there have any pride! It is total B.S. that a 16 year old should get a new vehicle. Everything I've owned was a result of hard work, and true independence. To those who "suck" on a financial “tit” consider yourself lucky. You’ll be on anti-depression medication within 4 years.

Sounds like you need some all ready .

While I agree people shouldn't be bought new cars as a birthday present, I'm not going to gripe about it, because it's not your decision, it's their parents.

Well.... I am 16 and recieved a new tC and it's a nice car and everything, but you gotta remember, its a 16k car that is easily paid off 350/month or less. I think 16k is a reasonable first car pricing, my friend is 17 and he drives a 350Z convertible.... taht may be alittle out of the question, but not the tC. My family is not wealthy, but were not poor and I work hard as well, and I'm glad you work hard and I have the highest respect for you, but you gotta know were not driving a Benz here, how many 16 year olds do you see with a Civic EX?

if receiving a TC is a big deal to you, them move out here and see everyone getting BMWs and lexus. I have a 17yo cusstomer that his parent bought him a caddy EXt with 24s and it is fully bagged. That to me is sick.

i really dont get these threads. just because a 16 year old gets a Scion from his parents DOES NOT mean theyre spoiled. it means theyre fortunate. heres my little story for ya: at age of 16 i got a 1986 ford escort. i proved i was a good driver, no tickets, no crashes, and when it died my parents agreed i needed a good car to go to college. something reliable and well built. now you ask why i deserve one. i probably dont. but seeing as my academics is going to end up saving my parents and myself over 30000 in the next 4 years (full ride scholarship) , a 14000 car serves like a good reward. now if you go saying i havent worked hard then thats total BS. i put it my work into a different venue, my education instead of a minimum wage job at McDs. I dont also see what this had to do with pride? I'm proud to get my car....

I guess I'll just suck on the tit a little longer if you will. im not worried considering after 4 years i'll be going to med school and will be writing out those medications a few years after that. i guess thats life. its just kind of judgemental to think that of every young scion owner who got their car for "free" even though they worked for it in different ways.

as long as they appreciate it, i don't see anything wrong with it. don't be hating on them cause your not in their position. however, if they're ungrateful and _____ that they didn't get what they wanted, then you have my permission to go do bad things to them.

I can understand where you're coming from with your story. I worked my ___ off in High School and graduated top 5 in my class while working a part time job. I received only a partial scholarship. Right now I'm working full time while attending college. So I bascially go to work at 5am and straight to night classes where I don't come home until 10pm or later. By the time I am able to sleep it's around midnight to 1am and back to work at 5. I pay for college, books, car payments and everything related to my car, cell phone, etc. etc.

There's a dude at my work that owns a new civic si with over 8k in mods invested that his dad bought him. He is a lazy dude and should have gotten fired a long time ago but they still manage to keep him. He has over 4 moving violations (street racing, speeding, etc.) and has had a suspended license several times already but is still driving. His last one he almost got thrown in jail but his daddy bailed him out. He just graduated with a 1.8 or 1.9 out of a 4.0 gpa and for his graduation present he received a brand spanking new Subaru WRX STI.

I work hard and am damn proud of it. I agree with you that there are different ways to earn things and I see that you worked for yours but I believe that most people these days do not earn their way anymore and rely on others to get by. Only time will tell where they will be. Life is not fair..so oh well..suck it up and work hard and you'll get what you want. Some have things given to them and others work harder. That's just how it is.

I have worked my a$$ off too, but it is no their fault that the parents can do things for them like that. Life is different for everyone......just my 2 cents...

lol...the guy said "financial tit". that's great.

i didn't get my first whip until i was 22...it was a used POS...but i worked hard for that car. fact of the matter is, i really don't care who's got a silver spoon in their mouth...it doesn't fade me. just worry about yourself and feel proud knowing that you have earned something you love. and if you've come a long way to get it...then it's just that much sweeter!

I think wylietc has some jealousy/envy issues. I'm 19 and i've never had a car until my tC, I've never been jealous of any one else for having a car. All my highschool classmates all had cars when they turned 16 and I was pretty much the only one without one... But now I have a nice new tC, it was worth the wait.. My family isn't very wealthy at all..... Its just my mom, my brother, and I.... my dad passed away almost 2 years ago. My grandma was the one who actually decided that I should get a new car so she gave me $6000 for a downpayment and I had to use my money from my job to pay the payments + insurance. And sometimes I can't make the payments so my mom helps out whatever she can. I don't called that being spoiled... I called that being fortunate.... very fortunate. And I don't see what the point of this thread is.

Interesting... This 16 yr old doesn't even have a clue what his parents paid for it. In San Jose after tax, licensing, and fees it actually starts around $18,500- more like a tad over $19,000 if like me you assume his parents aren't stupid enough to start a 16 yr old out in a car with manual transmission and got an automatic. He was right about the $300-$350 a month figure, but if it's so easy to pay that much a month I'd like to see him try it by himself (not to mention insurance for a 16 yr old and today's California gas prices.) Anyone given a brad new Scion Tc on their 16th b-day is definately spoiled.

my friend got a brand new 350Z when he was 17. his parents also payed monthly for him to live in a posh appartment in la jolla (if you know san diego county, its a rich area). it wasnt so bad untill he started complaining about his even richer friend, and his 50,000$ audi, who lived in a 10 million dollar house. he was 18. neither of them has worked a day in their life, and both did poorly in school.

hell, i'm 6 months away from 21 now, and still live with my mom in a tiny 2 bedroom townhouse. its GREAT to have friends like that huh? who never stop complaining? i havent talked to them since high school, and i dont regret it for a minute.

i absolutely HATE people who can never have enough. its one thing to be spoiled, but its another thing to not even appreciate what you get. being spoiled isnt necessarilly bad (my mom paid for half my tC), but it comes down to what these things mean to you. i've gotten a lot of things from my parents over the years, but every single thing is held to the same regard as things i work for and earn, and everything is greatly appreciated. i hope to instill that trait onto my kids some day, cuz if i end up making a lot of money later in life (ya never know), i dont want my kids to turn out like little sh*ts who dont care about anything, but want everything.

</rant>

edit: oh, and i'd also like to point out that my good ol' 350Z friend wrecked his car... TWICE. mommy and daddy fixed it all up for him both times too. a few months later, he was complaining that he wanted a blue convertible instead of his silver coupe. his parents were actually considering buying him ANOTHER one. iduno if they ever did, but it makes me sick to my stomach to think they might have.
