Sport Compact Car-Nov article and ad (56k beware)
dmitri your logic is all messed up. As chucksu said, it's the other way around. Also, the weight of the spoiler isn't what makes the weight distribution more even, it's the downforce the wing provides.
That being said, If it, hypothetically, added 100 lbs of downforce to the rear, you're taking weight off the front wheels, which in a FWD car isn't a good idea (less traction being the main reason). I like the pedistal wing personally, but honestly, don't buy a wing for performance, because that would be an oxymoron buying one for performance on a FWD car. Buy it for looks.

I agree you should buy based on looks. Downforce and spoiler have nothing to do with each other under 100mph. Which means they basically have nothing to do with each other since most here aren't going to be turning anywhere near the limits of traction above 100mph in their Tc.
MOST car spoilers (fiberglass, polyurethane) are much heavier than 5lbs. I used to like the look of some shorter aluminum spoilers, but fast and furious kinda burnt those out to everyone over 6.

The front lip is a great addition for speeds over 60mph
It does look "wrong" with those "fangs" on it tho.
The rear spoiler is at Touring height, great for road course driving/racing.
If it were lower it would be considered a Drag wing, higher would be a drift wing....
It's a well balance of function and form.
