Start-up Problem
Alright so I've been noticing for the past couple of days that my car
is acting really weird when I first turn it on.
What exactly is happening is that when I turn the key,
it feels/sounds like the car is a bit struggling.
I don't think it would be the battery dying out because it's still
pretty much a new car. I do play with my electrical system often
(install/uninstall underglow, interior cathodes, HID's) and disconnect
the negative all the time.
But as of the moment, my underglows are off the car, my cathodes are disconnected
and my HID's are the only thing pretty much connected. Maybe my negative isn't
fastened tightly? I haven't checked cause I'm at school right now.

mine too. does it whether it's cold or warm out. it all depends on how long it's been since I've last driven it. If within a few hours, it starts up fine. If it sits 12+ hrs, then it almost stutters when starting. Fuel pump problem? I dunno....almost scares me that I'm going to blow something in the engine.
hmmmm i had a issue once i thought it wasnt going to start i turned it over and the dang car started like my nova does was hopping around rumbleing so i let off the key and tryed it again it started rough but started and ran fine havent had any starting issues sence idk what it was or why but no problems i had about 6,000 miles on it when it did that now i got 8 and havent had the same issue
You are not providing enough information. I can tell you that on our racecar, our master cutoff switch effectively is the same as you pulling the neg. cable off the battery. When that happens, it clears the memory in the ECU. I have to start the racecar twice to get it to start. Very common, no big deal.
As for your issue, it could be temp related, starter related, battery V related, spark related, wiring related. You'd need to provide a detailed account of all parameters before anyone could give you a really honed-in response.

Or……. …? Must have been nothing if the O.P. hasn’t responded yet…..
At around 5,000 miles my car started starting oddly. It would turn over just fine, but it would take a little more to fire. I thought at the time that it was “normal”.
At around 8,000 miles it started getting worse. A few times I tried starting it, it would just crank and crank and crank…. Then it would start right up after sitting for a minute.
Then at around 10,000 miles it would not start at all. Had it towed to the dealership, then after a few hours they diagnosed a faulty “function block” (not sure the exact part, but didn’t really care to ask further) that was working intermittently and cutting power to the fuel pump. They had to order the part and kept my car over the weekend, but I had fun putting 1,000 miles on a brand spanking new 2007 Camry (never ever buy used

u know budsmoke your right! it seems that when im approaching that 5,000 interval it acts funny! im 200 miles away from my 20,000mi mark and it did it again today!!! hmmm ! so will it not fire at 100,000???
everyone is getting really technical with this. here is my answer to this problem. and so far no starting problem. (cold starts after left the car over night or 12+ hours off)
knock on wood.
i began having this issue about 2 months ago, and i had just finished doing a full tune up. i had been using regular. which over here in el paso,tx is 86 octane. then my dad put super/premium which is 91 octane. all we have is 86/88/91. i went from getting about 360 miles a gallon to about 390. then the next time 415. then about 410. so i stuck with the 91 octane due to the increase in gas milage. i also thought that i got an increase in millage since my drive to work now is all highway and i put it on cruise control at about 55-60 mph.
anyway, my car had been having a hard time starting so i thought it was the spark plugs. so i bought bosh fusion platinum iridium plugs. and nope it still happened. i even changed back to the stock denso plugs.
i put several gas treatments and nope. still was happening.
i even took it to the dealer, and since i have a cold air intake, the guy said it would be $80 to diagnose the problem. he told me that the intake was causing the issue and to take it off. but they would still charge me 80 to diagnose. i said no way, and went online(here to scionlife.com).
everyone had different fixes but some still got the starting problem.
so i decided to put a few of these together.
i took off the MAF sensor ( the one on the intake) and i cleaned it with carburator cleaner.
i cleaned the throttle body, also with carburator cleaner.
since i had heard that the oil in kn filter could dirty the sensor and i thought it was causing my throttle body valve opening thing to stick.
i also cleaned the inside of the intake tube. with just water.
i also am using 88 octane, since we dont have 87 octane.
i also put in some fuel system cleaner. i forgot what brand but its in a gold bottle. about 7 dollars.
the first time i started it, it sputtered a little, but this was because of all the dirty stuff that i cleaned out in the throttle body.
now whenever i turn on my car in the morning, it turns on just fine. no more cranking and cranking and car feeling like it was choking.
i hope this helps some of you. so far its been about 2 weeks, and i havent had any issues.
worth a shot, in my opinion.
i copied this into a few of these starting problem posts.
