Default starting problem

I just experienced a weird problem while trying to start my '07 tc, Auto with 21K miles. The car had been sitting in cold for 3 hours and had been warmed up completely prior to parking. I got in, turned the key, and the starter cranked, but the engine didn't turn over, tried like 5 more times, and on the 6th time the engine finally turned and barely started. The RPM's jumped all over the place and it almost stalled out when they dropped really low. I gave it some gas and it stayed running but the Rpm's were still jumpy. There were no warning lights on the IP. It was like that for the first 5 min. i drove, everytime i came to a stop the RPM's were jumpy. Then once it warmed up, it was all fine.

My car has never not started immediately. I have never even heard it crank. The temp was like 15 F but it had no problem starting in -20 F weather and i had a 1/2 tank of gas. Any ideas?

is that starting problem new? If you bought the car used and have no idea how it was before, you might want to check few things.. it could be several things.. bad plugs, bad maf, bad o2 sensor, clogged injectors or something else.. but a well maintained 21k miles should do that unless there is a factory defect. Any mods on the car?

could be your battery. My friends Camry with the 2az-fe does the same thing every once in a while. Once it gets started the rpm's are crazy and it stalls at red lights. But his battery light is on when this happens. Could also be your alternator

I bought it as a demo from a dealer with 2,600 miles on it. There are no mods.

My 07 TC started doing the same thing around the same amount of miles last year while it was cold outside (30 – 40 degrees) and just as you explained, it would be at operating temp and I would turn it off for a few hours and come back to it not starting until the 2nd or 3rd attempt.

My problem went away on it’s own a month or two later and hasn’t come back, yet…..
