I had this same exact problem about 2 months ago and took my car to the dealer. They replaced the steering wheel under warranty. Now... i have the same exact problem in the same exact area so i took my car back to the dealership. This time they are telling me that a DSPM inspector has to look at the issue and determine whether or not they will replace the steering wheel.

I dont understand the reason for this. My car is still under warranty and the new steering wheel they replaced should be covered for at least 1 year warranty.

I think this is BS anyone else?

Wow, I have over 35,000 miles on my tC and the leather is still tight and secure on my wheel.

I'm almost positive its from the heat. The loose part is just at the top of the steering wheel where the sun hits it. I just hope they will replace it for me again. I do not understand as to why they would not. My car is still under warranty and so is their replaced steering wheel!

greg.. of course it's a joke, the dealer doesn't really care. And I bet the person to come out to inspect your car, will just tell you to live with it. I've seen this behavior from Toyota people before, and if they keep it up, they won't have any customers anymore..

The 'inspector' is sent to try to determine if there is a manufacturing problem with the wheel, or if possibly it is something the owner has done that has caused it to loosen.

oh i am sure they will have customers. hell look what ford has put their customers through and people are still buying focuses, explorers and what not. sure their sales are slumping, but i still see people at ford dealerships.

Heh. Remember what a warranty is for, guys.

It's a guarantee that the car left the factory in good working order, and if any of the FACTORY parts fail under normal use within a certain time or mileage, because of bad parts or poor workmanship, they will fix 'em.

A warranty isn't some magic deal to get the manufacturer to fix things for free that we mess up. It is very simply the manufacturer warranting that THEY used good parts and put them together right. That's all.

I'd agree with the heat theory, seeing how the people in this topic who have the issue are hailing from California, Texas, and Arkansas.

Then again, it's easy for me to just go and say that considering that we're starting to hover around freezing in this area.

I got a call from the dealer and they are claiming that the steering wheel is a 'wear and tear item' and is therefore not covered under warranty.

I'm sorry, but i'm not buying that. If that was they case, why did they tell me that warranty covers it and replace it for free in the first place?
