there is also that setting under the audio button menu when your playing a cd. it is normally set to off, if you lower the bass and set it to on, it really puts new life into your stock system, i can't remember the name of it

i think you're talking about the SRT (sound retouch).. it's for MP3's and adds some emphasis to put life back into MP3's.. it does make a good difference.. not available on normal audio cd's..

I'm waiting until I get a nice alarm to throw all my amps, an eq and a head unit in the car, but for the time being, the system really isn't that bad. It has decent mids and highs, and if you want bass from stock speakers you're asking for way too much. I just turn the bass down all the way, and set it to xa/hear that's what I find works best and the speakers don't crack no matter what you listen to. I'd rather not have any bass than to hear distortion, which is just going to burn your speakers eventually. There are definately worse stock stereos out there. Or you can just not listen to your music so loud.

SSP - Hear
SRT - On (for my mp3 discs)
Bass - 2
Treble - 0

I didn't touch the car settings, so unless someone else did it while it was at the dealer, its still on tC.

Sounds fine to me. Couldn't stand SSP - Feel cuz it sounded like my speakers were gonna bust.

while i do not have my tc yet.. i have heard the tc sound system.. and it is a very decent system... it's by no means the best or the most powerfull, but descent.. NOW.. if you can't hear the music.. (no personal attack on anyone ) maybe you should have your hearing checked... seriously.. im for good quality sound and i like to feel the music aswell... but at the levels some people listen to music.. they are causing serious hearing damage... i mean... to listen to quality sound "IN" your vehicle you do not need 1000 watts of power...

i guess im getting older because i "use to be" into the "be the loudest" fad and i paid with some hearing loss... so when you guys say you can;t hear the radio... i would suggest maybe having a hearing test..

I've been in a band for 4-5 years practicing in areas no bigger than a cluttered garrage with more watts than I'll be getting in my car. So I don't think a car audio system is going to finish me off just yet.

I'm not going too big though. I'm gonna get a JL Audio 10W7 backed by a JL Audio 500/1 amp.

I think the xA and xB settings are so much better than the tC setting that one should try changing those settings and living with it for a while before upgrading. I use the xA setting and like it but prior to that I was very dissatisfied.

The volume goes way higher than that, they made it that way so there is not a huge jump between numbers (it has higher resolution in the volume adjustment). I actually like that waayyyyy more than the aftermarkets which have volume ranges topping at 20 or 30. It feels like you can never get the right setting. I usually run mine around 40 - 45 on Feel mode with the bass set to -2. It sounds really good there and you can feel the bass nicely for a factory setup.

But I think for a stock system, it rocks. But like the others said, take time to play with the settings. Mine came with the SRT turned off, which made it sound horrible. Once you get it set right, it sounds really good. Now mind you, I still like the sytem in my other car better, but it is pushing 800 watts with 2 10s in the back and a custom box I built. And of course, I am planning my custom system for the tC right now (you can never have too much!) . But for factory sound, I have been impressed.

Once you get a quality sub (got JL Audio in mine), the system sounds quite quite good. The only thing is the lack of refined sound adjustment and a dedicated sub adjustment (not the mention RCA outputs for them, too)

Yeah as I said earlier, cut the bass on your mids (just buy speaker capacitors if you must) and add a good sub. A 10W3 is matched very well to the stock speakers and definately impresses most. Many people think I changed the system when most of it is stock.

Sounds better than what I had stock in my 97 civic...so i can't complain.

For those of you who think it sucks, you should maybe consider posting what other stock sound systems you are comparing it to.

I'm using a 10W0 and people think I have a 600-800 watt system! You'd be surprise, this being a hatch and all

I agree completely...hold the SSP button until you can choose 'car type' and choose xA. Then turn it to the 'Feel' setting, and adjust bass and treb to taste. Its still not fantastic, but its a huge improvement.
