Default tC distribution: off the truck

Hey guys,

My tC should be here in the next week or two. My salesman said my tC is shipped from Japan to Portland, Oregon, and then is put on a truck to Chicago. I'm not too familiar with how dealerships/car distribution work, but my question is are trucks carrying the cars to be sold dropped off directly at the dealership or at some distribution point near the dealerships? One salesperson told me that it may be dropped off "near" the dealerships, and that is why there may be a few extra miles on the odometer. Do you have any input? Thanks!

Usually there is just one mile on the odometer, but that can be rare, since during shipment they get "drove" from each different transport (on/off trucks and boats). Also they sometimes get randomly picked for testing, so they might have like 7-8 miles on them

My dealer keeps telling me that my car is "In transit" i asked if that means if it is on a boat or on a truck and the answer i received was less then pleasing "It could be either one" So either my car is on a boat on it's way to new york or on a truck that left new york and they don't know where it is.

Frankly i don;t think i'm getting the straight story but i was promised that my car would be here "by christmas"

I still do not understand why it takes 6 days for your car to arrive when it's at a port 4 hours away......

Torture I tell you..... torture ;)

Default still waiting & waiting

I also bought the car from midtown scion in chicago, and i put the order in August. The dealer , in late Sept. said that car was in transit also, then 3 weeks later, he said the status changed to being still at port.

I waited and waited and called to complain, but they told me there was not much they could do.

He finally called me and said that the status chanced back to In-Transit, and should be here before Christmas. We'll see.....

man, I feel you guys on the wait.
my dealer said the same thing:
"it's still in port"
"what does that mean? Is it still in Long beach or did they truck it yet?" [I'm in Northern Cali]
"I don't know, it's 'in transit', that's what it says."
" grrr"
this happened on Friday, but on Saturday I got the call saying that it would be in on Sunday at 10am. [my uncle, who was the dealer, told me that the truck has to make some stops along the way, so that may be holding up the car.]
If I remember correctly when it first got to port it was Nov. 30 and it got to the dealership 5 days later. [only 3 weeks and 1 day wait!]

Mine only had 1 mile on it and a full tank of gas!!! :D :D :D

Good luck on the wait.. you'll be happy when you get it!

Wow, that's nuts, we've had some long waits on cars, but ordering one in August and still not having it? That's pretty bad, I know from my expiriance at my dealership that if your dealership ordered your car correctly, they would have had it a long time ago. My guess is that they either forgot to order the car until a few weeks ago or that they got your car a while ago and sold it to someone else who was willing to buy more accessories and buy it right away.

Once a car has been allocated to a dealership, it takes a maximum of 8 weeks to receive, and it usually takes 4-6 wks to actually get. Once a car shows up in F-status (or In-Transit) 4 wks is the max. amount of time for the car to get to the dealership, again usually less.

So, sorry to say, your dealership either doesn't know what they're doing and don't know how to order your car correctly, or they know exactly what they are doing and figured they could make more money on the car that was supposed to be yours and then make you wait even longer so they could order a 2nd car that they'd give you.

Either way, good luck
